Nikon Binoculars
« on: August 22, 2023, 03:57:15 PM »
Bought a pair of Nikon binoculars 8X40 Talons about 30 years ago. I've sent them back for repairs once, maybe twice over the years. I've used them a lot, and in the last 2 1/2 years almost everyday.
Well, the left side was starting to get a  little hazy so I sent them back to Nikon.

Today UPS delivered a brand new pair of 8X42mm binoculars. No discussion, no hassle, nothing.

Ya really can't beat Nikons lifetime warranty. They advised they didn't service my old Nikons anymore.

I'm a fan of Leupold, mainly because of how they stand behind their rifle scopes. I had a 3x9 on my 25-06 that was never off the rifle for 48 years. Sent it back to Leupold because it wasn't as clear as it once was. They sent me a brand new scope. Nikon makes nice glass....but.

I've never owned any Nikon riflescopes myself,
but a friend has a couple on some rifles, and
they're pretty good
I've still got a couple of Nikon 35mm cameras
and a bag full of lenses. I guess for sentimentality
because they're not worth anything
I used to take some very nice quality photos with
them, and took the photos for the company
brochure at a dealer I worked at
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Well, if I shunned everything, and everybody that I didn't see eye to eye with politically I likely wouldn't have many friends, or much property.
I don't know much about Nikons politics, and don't really care, but I like their binoculars, and their service is top drawer.

Had one of their riflescopes, did not care for the BDC cross hairs. Had one of their cameras back in the days of film, took it on all kinds of adventures, that was a rugged machine.

I went back to Leupold after Nikon quit making scopes and I had a warranty issue with Sightron. Only downside to the Leupold warranty is they no longer make gloss scopes.

i was kind of a binocular junkie a decade ago. i bought mid priced stieners, nikons, leopolds and vortex and a few others. id rate then in that order. my vortex razors are hands down the best glass but they are heavy and unfortunately made in china. binoculars like rifle scopes come down to how much your willing to spend more then the brand. that said even the mid range binoculars and scopes today are better then the top end stuff from 20 years ago. take leupold scopes for an example. when they relaced the old varix2 scopes with the vx2 they used the same glass and coatings the previous gen varixIII used. then toward the end of the vx line that same glass was put in the vx1 scope and the others were improved. Ive bought and sold a few others but the pair i use most today are my leupolds. they have glass that is fairly close to my razors but are much lighter. the stieners and nikon sit in my jeep and truck in a bag with my truck guns and extra mags. the razors are used for crop damage shooting when you have to be sure a deer at 500 yards when the sun is going down isnt a small buck because we cant shoot bucks. the leupolds are with me when im actually hunting. ive owned alot of different scope but i will admit bang for the buck its hard to beat a leupold or nikon monarch. personally i think its a dirty woke shame that nikon quit making them and became anti gun. but the good thing is leupold is still there and its an American company that has glass as good as anything made anywhere for a reasonable price. im not throwing my nikon scopes or binoculars away but i sure wouldnt buy a new set of binoculars from them when i can get just as good quality from a company like leupold that shares my beliefs.

No they don't, and my gloss black got traded for a black matte finish, which I don't like as much, but its a new scope.

I don't think that was the intention. I think everyone here owns products made by companies that don't have Americas best interests in mind. I myself own an older pair of Nikon binoculars.

I certainly don't have any buyers remorse. My first pair lasted almost 30 years with heavy use/abuse with 1 maybe 2 trips for repair, and after all those years Nikon replaced them. Never 1 single hiccup concerning service.

Nikon is old school when it comes to dealing with their optics; they will maintain what was and still is as long as they can .

They are the best of the rest when competing with European optic quality; in the new liberal Europe though one can tell if the people in charge are old veterans or some new snot faced punk.

I have a pair of 12x50’s made in Japan I traded for from a bird watcher as he could not hold them steady anymore and I flat out love em. They are rubber coated.

Service and warrantee doesn't get much better than that.
No matter what product we buy will fail at times, or wear out. When a company lives up to their warranty, and even goes beyond, they are in my opinion top notch.

I gave up on Nikon products back when they stopped supporting hunters. Good luck trying to use your scope warranty now. A friend said they give you a coupon for the value to be used at their store. I recently picked up a Riton Optics 5 Primal 10X42 ED binos and I am thoroughly impressed. Nice weight for all-day wearing around your neck, clear and crisp images, and edge-to-edge clarity without any noticeable color distortion. For the price, they are definitely worth looking at. Riton has a great Le/Mil program too.

I bought a pair of Nikon binos for my wife quite a few years ago, she was always sharing MY binos, and I thought she would like to have her own pair.

I ended up finding a pair online that were being discontinued that had very good reviews, and they are VERY good binos, plus she just loves them.

I think I have one Nikon scope, it's a good scope but just a bit bigger/heavier than the Leupold I really wanted, so eventually I replaced it with the Leupold that I wanted in the first place.
