New York City Mayor Eric Adams' frustration with illegal immigration might finally be boiling over, saying Wednesday that illegal immigrations will "destroy" his city.
"We have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need, healthcare," Adams said at a town hall, which had video of the event posted on Facebook.
"And this team here, we stated let's do everything we can before we have to push it out to into neighborhoods and communities. Month after month I stood up and I said this is coming to a neighborhood near you. Well, we're here."
Adams said New York is taking in "10,000 migrants a month" and will ultimately have a "$12 billion deficit" due to the migrant crisis, calling on President Joe Biden to curb illegal immigration at the southern border.
"We're getting no support on this national crisis, and we're receiving no support," Adams said. "And let me tell you something New Yorkers: Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don't see an ending to this.
"This issue will destroy New York City."
Adam is not up for reelection until November 2025, but he is hailing his work, despite the city's struggles that have resulted from migrant busing efforts from the overwhelmed southern border.
"Go online and look at our W's," Adams said, beginning what would be a rebuke of fellow Democrats' support for open borders and illegal immigration.
"Look at what I ran on and what I did. Look at what we've accomplished in 20 months. We've turned this city around in 20 months. And then what happened?"
The blame was not all on Democrats, though. Adams called Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott a "madman" for sending illegal immigrants to self-proclaimed "sanctuary cities."
"Started with a madman down in Texas, decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City: 110,000 migrants," Adams said.
Abbott has sent just 13,000 of the migrants New York City has taken in, according to the Texas governor's data, the New York Post reported.
"Everyone is saying it is New York City's problem," Adams added, amid weeks of back-and-forth with fellow Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul in telling the mayor to stop redirecting migrants from his sanctuary city to upstate New York counties.
"Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we're going to have to cut — every service in this city is going to be impacted, all of us.
"All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000 and I'm telling you now with 110,000: the city we knew, we're about to lose, and we are all in this together, all of us."
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., the House GOP's No. 3, represents the "north country" of the state. "Joe Biden's Far Left open border policies have caused our Northern Border to see an unprecedented and historic surge in illegal immigration and Kathy Hochul's 'Sanctuary State' policies have further incentivized this dangerous surge," Stefanik wrote in a statement Wednesday.
"Now we have reports of murder and rapes committed by illegal immigrants in Upstate New York. Enough is enough.
"It is time for Joe Biden to secure our Southern and Northern Border and the quickest way to do that is for [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.] to pass and Biden to sign into law House Republicans' Secure the Border Act, which is the strongest border security bill in history and would put an end to the Biden border crisis."
