What a novel idea!  Might have to use a higher front sight, but it could be a darn good idea!

Peep sights

It's a nifty, but old concept - check with Brownell's www.brownells.com - they have at least a couple of peep sights that will attach to scope bases.

Check out www.splitfireguns.com.   They offer a  Ghost Ring  peep sight that attaches to Weaver bases for $59.95.  Very similar in appearance to the Ashley Ghost Ring sights.

Hi Advocate. I check out that website and I believe it is an Ashley Outdoors (AO) sight.  They make good stuff as does New England Custom Guns. :agree:  I've used them both.
     
Dave Talley also makes a peep sight that attaches to his scope bases. Haven't use one, but his stuff is high quality too.

I've used the old Redfield flip-up aperature sight that screws onto the back of the rear scope base. It doesn't interfer with the scope, and is always attached so it can't get lost or forgotten. Wish they still made them. :cry:

HI Rocky.  I too have one of the old Redfields with the aperture screwed on the back of the one piece base.  A great idea that, thankfullly, I've never had to use. I guess an enterprising guy could mfgr them for existing Leupold, Redifield, Millett etc., bases since their scrwed on and would only require drilling & tapping of the  rear base.  

Question:  If I use the AO rear sight in the Weaver base of my M-94 Trapper AE, will I need to add a higher front sight?

Hooboy, that's a good question. I really don't know. Probably, but then again, maybe not necssarily so. There's a formula to determine your front sight height, but the rear sight really needs to be installed first. Basically all you're doing is making sure both front and rear sight heights are the same distance above the bore. Brownell's catalog has the formula as I recall. Might be on their website too - www.brownells.com

I forgot to mention in my last post that Brockman's Custom Gunsmithing www.brockmansrifles.com makes some very good aperture sights too. I think he might even make a flip-up aperture that attaches to the rear scope base. His rifles are really nice too.
