UAW workers on strike!!
« on: September 18, 2023, 11:37:46 AM »
Followed my youngest son up to the auto mechanic early this afternoon to drop his car off. Went by the Jeep plant here in Toledo. All the entrances had striking workers with their picket signs up and shouting. I knew they had voted to strike, not sure, have heard several different options as to what they want. Increase pay, less hours, whatever. Did read a Fox article that socialist Bernie-The Mouth- Sanders was at one of the plants encouraging them on. Nice to see a man that's a career politician, tell them, screw the company you work for, and has never worked at a job in private industry, his whole life. Probably tells a woman what child birth feels like, and a farmer how to milk the bull. Main thing that comes to mind about this, I can't afford a new car/truck or van at present now. They get a pay increase, same pay and less hours, whatever, you know the company's will pass the increase along. Any bets on when the company's will start massive layoff's due to lack of sales?

All the auto makers are reporting record profits.  They can afford to share.

You really think they'll do that!! All the shareholders would have to take a cut! They see that they'll have to take a serious cut, with Biden in office, close down the plants and start building more in Mexico and China. I'm not saying they shouldn't get something. But these unions, at least at the top, are big Democrats, and they got Scarecrow Joe by the short hairs. Things are going to get interesting real quick.

I am afraid you just don't understand...Labor is by far the most costly part of car production already.  nearly doubling that cost, will add at least 30% to the price of a new car or truck.

We are already into an inflationary, near death spiral.  What profits the auto companies make, goes to the share holders..folks like you and I.

Gypsyman was right; If you make those "owners" take more loss than they have already by way of government's unbridaled spending..our
economy and country suffer just that much more.
,
I know leftists have been told..and swallow the notion that there are only the big "fat cats" who would suffer..  Well, there may be a  few  of them,
but they are as hard to stop as some senator or vice president who sells his country out to make bundles of millions of dollars for himself.

As with major corporations. we citizens we are all 'share holders' in this country, and feel the pain when it's prosperity is being fumbled away
for totally selfish reasons.  But tell us how to stop the crooked politicians without killing the country, and perhaps we can apply that knowledge to
those select few fat cats at the top, who are rolling around in selfish gains.

Big guy makes the investments, takes the risks, and the workers want more than what they agreed to work for.

When the plants close down, they'll end up with nuthin.

Yeah.  One of my relatives found that out the hard way.
Worked at a big plant to the east of here. Nice high
paying job. New house with the kid on the way.
New car for the wife. After a few years, the group he
belonged to called a strike. Can't negotiate with the
owners. Had to walk back and forth by the entrance
gates with the sign in hand. Some had their coolers
with refreshments. Many thought it was a kind of a
party. Went on for a while. Creditors getting antsy
about the bills.
The company finally decided they'd just padlock it
and call it a loss. Most of the workers were in dire
straits financially including my relative. He ended up
losing his butt and pursuing a different career path

Yeah,  a company that can't satisfy stockholders
and the board of directors will definitely go elsewhere
and find people that are delighted to have a thin
slice of the pie when they've never had pie all along
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Unions have become like big government. The more you give'em, the more they want. The people that put the work in to get the money together to start the business, secure the property, buildings, equipment, the customer contracts, and everything else, are the people that took all the risks, are expected hand over some of the profits to workers that hired on to an agreed upon wage?
Thats not the way it works.

Again you show how clueless you are. Wage and benefit increases don't come out of corporations pockets. Consumers pay for them.

ive said that for years. add more taxes to the ceos and they will just give themselves a pay raises and raise the price of your truck. so basicaly its just fueling inflation and lowering middle class standard of living. auto workers probably need a raise to keep up with this biden fueled economy but who gets 40 percent raises? in my 30 years in the ibew the biggest raise i got was 4.5%. we went on strike once and they figured out that with our loss of wages and the small raise we ended up getting that in the 4 years of that contract we actually lost money. that strike  was in 1980 and our local hasnt striked since then. but this strike thing is spreading. they see people getting these huge raises and want in on it. easy to stop. make a law that everyone is given cost of living raises each year and thats it. no more black mail by either side.  if a company does good and makes more then they dont OWE more money to there workers. but on the other hand if the business is run poorly the workers shouldnt be punished by having their wages cut by inflation.

Even if that's true, tell us.....if it were YOUR company, with YOUR name on the front door, how would you feel about your employees, that initially agreed to work for what you offered, attempting to TELL YOU what pay you would pay, and what benefits you would give them?  HMMMMM?

In unions there is strength..........to harm the economy, shut down production, and cause all kinds of chaos and havoc.  All while getting the union hierarchy rich doing NOTHING PRODUCTIVE.

Just my opine.....Roger

FYI- the employees have worked for what they agreed to under their contract. That contract has expired. Time to negotiate a new one!

If the employees don't like the pay there, go somewhere else to work, where they do like the pay wage.

Whitmer repeals Michigan's 'right-to-work' law, brings back prevailing wage.

Michigan,   became the first state in decades to repeal a union-restricting law known as “right-to-work”

I say let them all three go under. I haven't owned an "American" branded vehicle since 2004. I don't expect to ever need another vehicle than the Toyota Tundra I have now. It doesn't yet have 18,000 miles on it and I drive only about 2500 a year. Baring it being totaled in a wreck I'll never need another.

I've got a Honda Pilot with 81,000 miles on it, and a Dodge Ram 1500 with 78,000 miles on it. My wife drives her Honda once a week to her sisters house. Sometimes my pickup will set for 2 weeks without being driven.
My ranch truck gets me to work.

I don't plan on ever buying another vehicle.

My trip to Durango next week only happens once a year.

U.S. taxpayers lost more than $11.2 billion as a result of the federal bailout of General Motors .   Under Barry's watch in 2009 .

That 'bailout;, was just anoither Demoncrat trick to reward a key group for voting Democrat !

What happened to the money we taxpayers provided for the bailout?  Well, first Obama helped his communist friends..then he gave most of the money to the crooked union pension funds, that the union fat cats had mishandled ...(or did they steal it?).

      https://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2012/10/17/Obamas-Auto-Bailout-Was-Really-a-Hefty-Union-Payoff

   Here..from the above article;

"In the same report, the CBO projects that handouts to Wall Street firms will ultimately net the government a cool $11 billion profit. They say the auto industry, on the other hand, will never pay back taxpayers. According to the congressional bean counters, $20 billion is gone for good.

Where did that money go? Mainly, it went to paying off debts owed by GM and Chrysler, and – in an historic distortion of our bankruptcy proceedings – to securing the pensions and livelihoods of UAW workers. It turns out the real debt was that of Mr. Obama to organized labor, which had ponied up some $400 million to help him defeat John McCain."

Hey!  Good to hear you admit that socialists are nothing but closet fascists!   After all, there is very little difference between Socialism/Communism
   and Fascism..

 A) Socialism/Communism.. The government owns the means of production, and controls the profits (if there are any, under socialism)

 B) Fascism allows firms to keep their companies, but tells them the when, where and what they will produce..

Of course, any union is basically a socialist organization...and like socialists everywhere,if they don't  get their demands answered,.
    often resort to 'mob action'.

The Democraps have long used and abused union members..while still rewarding them with unearned pay, when compared tpo others who
  are doing comparable work.

When workers join government and work against investors, what is that called?  It is called Socialism...and when it is backed by
government guns... it is called Communism.

Either one puts honest citizens in bondage  to a godless government...

he/she is a teacher

I would expect a more open-minded display of intelligence from a college-educated instructor of future generations.  But then, that biped is quite probably a member of a teacher's union, who thinks they have every right to tell the taxpayers that pay thier salary how much they'll pay them.

Either way, the point I attempted to make is still the same.

..And tell the children in their charge that sexual perversions are "normal", that little girls can become boys if they wish..or little boys can become girls..and teacher can introduce them to people who will assist them, by lopping off unwanted parts

Either way, the point I attempted to make is still the same.

Well, looks like the strike is working. Ford, GM, and Stellantis are announcing layoffs. With all my travels threw Ohio, Michigan and Indiana the last couple years, I've seen thousands of trucks and cars in factory lots, waiting to be sold. First was the chip shortage, and dealers were not stocking the number of cars they usually keep on their lots. They waited until somebody ordered what they wanted, keeping their inventory low. They have a surplus of vehicle's, wonder how long it might take to sell what they got. With interest rates up, might be awhile before they need to build any new vehicles.
