Woeful ignorance..
« on: November 01, 2023, 01:55:06 AM »
From Fox News this morning...   During WW2, some 40,000 ghettos and concentration camps were set up by the Nazis...

...And a large percentage of Americans cannot name one of them...

Hint:  Here's a list of some of the major death camps...    https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/list-of-major-nazi-concentration-camps

The only two I could remember is Auschwitz and Ravensbruck. Most of them I can't pronounce let along remember them. I think Auschwitz was the most famous and I remember Ravensbruck because that is where Corrie Ten Boom and her sister were sent. Corrie ten Boom's book "The Hiding Place" is a good book and tells the story of her and her family hiding Jews from the Nazi's, and then being arrested, and eventually ended up at Ravensbruck. Anyone that hasn't read The Hiding Place, its a good read.

Yes, Corrie's book is a great read.  ..And yes, you got the names of a couple of the more notorious concentration camps.

Closest really large camp in the vicinity where i was stationed in Germany, was Dachau...which is maintained as a memorial.

Another camp, named Sobibor, was the scene of a rebellion by the inmates.  There was a movie made to that effect.
