Sounds official

The "news " people were saying that 50% +
of Dallas Independent School District students
can't speak English, and that the graduation
rate for Dallas Independent School District
students has fallen to 80%

I don't think I need to write anything else,
and you should be able to draw your own
conclusions from that

Is 80% the graduation rate or the failure rate?  If it's the graduation rate, that's better than most schools.

Well I missed an exact 80% definition

I did catch the student body demographic
50% + latino
25%  black
Less than 5% white
Didn't catch the "other "

15 years ago the district was the 7th in
the nation for highest drop out rate

Not too awful long ago,  the high school
I graduated from and the next closest
were very close to being shut down
because of high dropout and low graduation
rates, and very low test scores

Many feel that part of the answer is to
hire more spanish speaking teachers
instead of teaching students how to
properly speak and comprehend and
properly write the english language as
we're supposed to

Just more enabling and making excuses.
Business as usual

Next question:  What does it take to graduate?

A passing grade on tests of knowledge that's supposed
to have been learned during your 12 years of free education.
Not an unreasonable requirement.

Not unreasonable at all.  I think Ironglow was thinking it didn't even require that.

Today we hear about people who have grfaduated , or at least, attended to their 16th year of age, who still cannot read, write or spell.

...And don't ask them any questions about geography, history or economics..
