Biden's asinine handling of The Ukraine
« on: November 19, 2023, 03:57:35 PM »
I was looking at modern farm tractors.
It showed the latest from Russia also.
Among them is Versatile, whose majority owner is Russian Rostselmash, (Versatile are sold as Rostsmach in Russia) while many Russian vehicle manufacturers, road and farm used U.S. and European (mostly German)engine and tranny parts.
I wondered how much is still from West.

Well Liebherr has plants is Russia and is playing damned if you do and damned if you do not games, but Caterpillar and Mercedes engines are being replaced with mostly Chinese engines, SO, the buddy-buddy part of Putin and Xi really has damned little to do with military items but mostly commercial units where China's hurting economy gets a huge boost from Biden letting the Ukraine War start full blast.
U.S engines and transmissions being replaced by Chinese units, and this is tens of millions of dollars shifting to the East.
Ditto goes for over the road Semis.
At the same time , Biden and his electrification BS, which hurts Catepillar greatly in the long run, is also back-firing even without the war.
Russian has HUGE natural gas reserves so they are adapting every thing from trucks, busses to huge industrial engines to LP and Pressurized gas.
Some thing Biden is trying to stamp out over here.

The video showed that Russia, like the U.S. had already sold a good part of its soul To China and is now trying undo some of it after learing the hard way by having Russian companines restarting engine and transmission developement that had just imported said same.

Caterpillar pulled out of the semi truck engine business a decade or more ago. They started having problems before Biden.

My next older brother is an operating engineer as welll as a highly qualified mechanic on same..for instance, he was a head mechanic for Caterpillar of Fairbanks, during the entire pipeline construction.  Thus, he was called upon to service various odd brands , even here at home.

Back in the 1970s a tractor was imported from the USSR.  Brand name BELARUS..  My brother worked on them upon occasion, so I recall one case where a farmer blew a clutch while plowing.
There was a dealer about 20 miles away, but he stocked few parts...I don't know if he could even get any.  So my broither had to "make do".

..But there was a problem, ot only proper heft and diameter, but there was a spline issue.

He went to various delers (friends) and compared parts...he ended up putting a Dodge clutch in that machine.  He was not at all endeared to
   Soviet engineering or manufacturing.

My eldest brother, until he oassed a few years ago, had his own shop in Texas.  He told me that even back then, some Caterpillar castings (housings) were being built in China, and were nowhere near the quality of our own,.

If it were me wanting to buy a foreign built machine, I guess I would look at Kubota (Japan), Kyoti (S Korea) or Mahindra (India)...about in that
    order.

Oops! Actually Massy Ferguson is "foreign" also, being  headquartered now in France..

Bob, since you live in Minnesota, you must remember the Canadian make  called COCKSHUTT..  They were decent, and some kin to Oliver,as I recall.

CAT has a foundry in China, it cast most of their diesel engine blocks.

Deere also has a huge factory in china, that's why most of their parts say, Made in china on them.

I've seen NEW deere tractors with loaders on them that were already rusting, a closer look and you could see cast right into the loader frame,  made in china.

Versatile's main manufacturing plants are located in North America. Primarily Canada, though they have a sprayer plant in Minnesota. As with the North American tractors, those manufactured(assembled) and sold into the east European market have Cummins engines and the quad tractors are fitted with the CAT TA22 transmission.

I've seen MANY Olivers that said Cockshutt on the side, as they were rebadged Olivers. DM
The last and largest true Cockshutt was the 570 Super - 71 hp.

They were working on a new larger one when White stopped true Cockshutt tractors.
White merged Cockshutt, Minneapolis Moline and Oliver in the end, but MM and Oliver had tractors true to their design until the early 70s.
Cockshutt combine design was what was used and developed even when Cockshutt, MM and Oliver combines ceased to exist.

White was eventually bought and merged into oblivion in the long run, but if you read any farm magazines on tractor heritage, for some years the rebadging  hurt the bottom line.

The 55 series, with the exception of the Oliver 2255 were actually hybrids, part MM, part Oliver.
The 1350 was the last true MM.

On February 21, 2023, John Deere Tianjin Works(JDTAW) in China held its 70,000th tractor rollout ceremony and customers, dealers, Deere leadership and employees gathered and celebrated this meaningful milestone.

Tianjin Works originally started as a transmission production line in 2007 and grew into the current multiple tractor production line since 2012. At the beginning it produced 75 HP tractors but now it houses even the 8R flagship model with the maximum of 300 HP tractors. The 70,000 high-end tractors with Deere advanced technology are working across China, contributing to China's agricultural modernization and Chinese farmers’ success.

The 70,000th tractor produced by John Deere Tianjin Works, is the NR4 6M-2104 model newly launched in FY23, which not only has a more powerful engine, but also the key upgrades that will achieve better work efficiency. Especially, the intelligent solution such as iTEC enable customers to do one-button field turning, which will bring a whole new experience to customers.

Zhou Wei, Director of JDAP Sales and Marketing, said in his opening speech, “The equipment produced in John Deere Tianjin Works are world-class and 70,000 high-quality tractors are supporting customers across China and Asian markets. This is thanks to the combined efforts from our Deere team, dealers, and customers. We will continue to deliver advanced products and solutions to Asia Pacific region and provide users with full support throughout the product lifecycle.”

John Deere Tianjin Works is the production facility not just for China domestic market but it exports to other global regions including Europe, Asia, Africa and Middle East as well. In fact, around 50% of its total sales volume comes from export business and it increases by the year. To Asia, 6B series tractor is the key product shipped from Tianjin Works and farmers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, and Thailand are achieving more with less thanks to this powerful tractor. Deere also has a huge factory in china, that's why most of their parts say, Made in china on them.
