Looks like Toyota wants to build "my kind of pickup"

.
   ..But I doubt it will ever be sold here. I have little doubt, but the "big three" and politicians paid off by lobbiests..will kill the deal.

now that right there is one ugly truck

  Pretty much like the old, original Jeep, Land Rover and Humvee were.  ...But they were very capable and functional.  I liked the old M38 Jeeps when I used them, and that is the model Jeep built it's reputatrion on.

 ..And the Land Rover sure served the UK troops well around the world..  That Humvee has proven it's worth..without the carpets and decorations.

  I have mentioned here before, that I like the very base models, which I can add to if I wish.  Sheesh!  look what has happened to the Land Rover in
  recent years !   Outside the military.. Soft and cushy..barely more than a "pimp-wagon" anymore..and the Jeep & Humvee have gone "Hollywood'
   too.
  Besides, there is a certain beauty in that "ugliness"..  As Frank Lloyd Wright once said, ... "form follows function".
...
 As I mentioned here before..my ideal would be a refined M38 Jeep with a modern engine & brakes.  Why would anyone want carpets, complex
  electronics, chrome plating and fancy paint jobs on such a vehicle?

    Just my $.02 ..like it or dump it.  ..And I fully realize that not everyone sees things as I do.

     The Toyota IMV 0 doesn't have to be ugly..  There's an old song that goes.."everything is beautiful...in it's own way"...

   This truck can be had with 4X4 and I think that overland model looks pretty good. Then too, it can be built as a modular.. electric offered, not interested.

I've been driving nothing but Toyotas for a long time, around 20 years and had one even earlier than when I went to nothing but Toyota. That thing tho just does nothing for me.

I'm approaching 19,000 miles on my 2017 Tundra and Matt I think has already crossed 200,000 on my 2011 Tundra that he drives. I let him have it with around 12,000 on it.

  First they said it would be 10K, now I see it's 13K.  Pretty soon it will be just like everything else, too high priced for what you get.

every 18-25 year old girl will drive them. just like a bronco and even my jeep'' there not made for the land rover or Landcruiser Crowd. id bet 90 percent of them dont see a dirt road and the most they will haul is a bag of junk from bed bath and beyond. especially that YELLOW one!! im with bill if you want a toyota they already make real trucks for men and although im not a fan there about as reliable as they come. reminds me of those little fake import cab overs. 10K?? i wouldnt drive that if it was sitting in my yard full of gas. right up there with a pink prius or one of those "smart" cars that your suppose to be intelegent for buying until you get hit by a f150

If I wanted a 4X4 I might buy that white one. I remember a time when folks bought strip down versions of Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, and even Studebaker pickups. This was of course in a time when people enjoyed fresh air, and  weren't concerned about the wind messin up their hair.
In my younger days I had several of those old pickups. No air conditioning, roll up windows, but a good heater was all that was needed.
Those old trucks were basic, but dependable.
My current Dodge pickup is by definition a work truck but has carpet, power windows, and door locks, air ect, and the 5.7 hemi V8, but its more than good enough for my tastes

  Toyota is showing guts other manufacturers have not shown in recent decades..  Or is it that others just grabbed the opportunity to jack up their
    prices?

  I drove compact pickups for several decades..3 Datsuns,  a couple Chevy Luvs. and after one Ford courier (Mazda) great truck , I went to Rangers, a
  lways ordering the base model..rubber mats, manual trans, etc.

    I probably would have stayed there, but Ford abandomned their best pickup truck (IMO)..in favor of a "me too" copy of the F150...

  So this new Toyota is closer to my old Rangers, than anything Ford, or any of the "big three' make today....except this new Toyota seems much more versatile than anything the big three are likely to produce.

  On that base can be fitted everything from a coffee truck, camper, ambulance to a service truck or hunting rig !

...And none of us can deny the Toyota record of reliability and durability..with long life. Like the energizer bunny...they just keep on going.

  So they may not sell for $10K here.  Even if they double in price, it would still be a bargain, considering that anything built by the big three,
    only STARTS at $30,000..

  If they build them here, that would save the 25% "chicken tax"..lowering the price again.  We should be thankful to Toyota for fighting the high
    price tags .  They seem to be chopping truck prices on almost all models..

  Kudos..Toyota..    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irTloieKKJk

  Let Toyota shake up the truck market with many new announcements..can't hurt a thing !   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUnMhixMCrA

I gave up being concerned about how good my vehicle looks when finally I realized I was never going to be able to afford a 1965 Corvette. As long as it doesn't break down, gets decent mileage, and gets the job done, who cares what it looks like (for the most part anyway)

dont know about that. seems about the opposite at least for the last 10 years compare out the door prices on indenticaly optioned trucks and toyotas are the most expensive. when i bought my ram in 2020 with dealer incentives it was 46k out the door. not the top end package but had everything but the huge info center i have no use for or a un roof id never want in a truck. my nieces husband bought a new full sized v8 toyota. nothing fancy and the interior looked like some plastic 80s era truck. his truck stickered for 4 grand more than mine and the dealer said take it or leave it. mine stickered for 4 grand less and they took another 4 grand off of it. both trucks have been dead reliable so no advantage either way. i can guarantee you if toyota sells a truck for 14k (which i seriously doubt they will because theres no profit in something like that) ford would do it for 12k.

i dont get this either

ford is hands down the best selling truck. always has been. im not a ford guy but id say the rest of them are the me too trucks. thats what you call copying the leader. had a girl friend that bought a stripped ford ranger. didnt even have power steering. it was a crap brown color. she had good luck with it but no thanks. i worked to hard to in my reirement days have to drive i tiny truck with no power steering or air and seats as hard as a rock in the cold and sweat producers when its hot. i have to wonder why you so conserned with spending your money in your last years? yoyur church let you take it with you. before id buy something like that id throw my arms up in the air and join bill and dee and just drive the trucks i already own.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Let me explain..Last new Ranger I bought was my 2005 model..5 speed, rubber mats..NO extras..  $14,000
    Soon Ford dumped the real Ranger, and simply pretended that the Ranger never existed..  Then, apparently after hearing former loyal Ranger
    owners like myself, complain regularly, and quit shoiwing up at Ford dealers..they decided to bring "A"  Ranger back!
  What they "brought back" was a truck nearly the same size and nearly the same price as the F-150..so what did they prove?  Nothing !
     We who once bought Rangers..theought Ford was playing a joke...we didn't want a Ranger that was nothing more than a "me too" F-150 !
   If we wanted an F-150, we would have bought an F-150 years ago.. See; They didn't "get it" either..
    Sadly, the other brand trucks grew larger too.
didnt work though. maybe toyota can use recoil starters and go back to idiot lights and save another 1000. heck not everyone drives at night so they can make headlights optional. heck recoil starters and no headlights or radio would allow them to power the plugs with a cdi box and eliminate a battery and alternator. hell i got this thing down to about 9k now. get rid of the heater and toss the seat and have you add your own lawn chairs and were down to the price of a cheap 4 wheeler. i know many of these things wouldnt pass safety standards but if we took 4 iterstate batterys and my grinder motor and slapped that in biden would sign an executive order to bypass safety and give you a big enough rebate that it would be cheaper than the special at applebees
     Ridicule and hyperbole along with silliness prove nothing !  The truck is obviously an functioning vehicle as proven in other areas already.
    Speak in honesty please, this new truck likely has as many accessories as the "muscle cars" of the past, which some here in their nostalgia,
  praise so loquaciously.
  Today's cars have so many accessories, seemingly to impress the customer...and his/her friends.  Much like taking a perfectly well functioning
  axe., adding a colorful handle. painting eyes or teeth on the blade and having friends autograph every inch of the handle.
     ...Called, "guilding the lily"...pleases the crowd, but doesn't add practical function to tha axe.
you buy your yugo and ill stick to a real truck. one that gets me home in a snow storm. gets me out to my deer blind even if theres 2 feet of mud on the road. gets me to town shopping and home with a load of lumber or 20 bags of quick crete. gets me there without putting up with some wezzy 4 cyl that gets MAYBE 2 more mpg than my v8. keeps me comfortable when its over 90. a music loving guy like you should appriciate a stereo better then the one you had in your home in the 70s. nobody here is stupid. i here all the time what do you need a car or truck like that for. or a boat, snowmobile, harely that nice for. or what do you need more than 3 guns for.
99 times out of a 100 it comes from someone who either settled for a crappy job or spent his life on welfare or made poor life decisions and cant afford whatt someone else has so instead of admitting failure criticizes the smart guy for wasting money. like i said your old enough that any day could be your last and you sure as crap cant take it with you. my wife is set if i die. she wont get a pile of money but between the house the camp and all my toys (and hers) that i dont owe a dime on along with my pension could live like a queen. So you tell me the logic in me trying to buy the cheapest tin can i can for a truck.
Heck i could even buy a new 100k pickup put life insurance on the loan and use it while it acts as a life insurance policy. if i die its paid off and she can sell it take the money and buy what she wants. this is the only time in most of my life i dont have a truck payment with insurance on it. kind of silly but 8% interest that biden created and all the manufactures that kissed his ass with this stupid ev thing and lost money and now want me to pay for their folly just pisses me off enough to tell them to shove it. maybe in a couple years when theyve ate enough crow and have to beg us to buy a truck so they can stay solvent ill change my mind. but i will say that without a doubt it will have to be an even cooler truck then i own to get my interest. ive had the bug for a diesel for quite a while. I chuckle at you thinking your somehow cool because you buy tiny cars and tiny trucks. kind of reminds me of one of those college girls or bitter old lesbians with save a whale stickers and dole for president  in there back windows
That life insurance on a loan is a scam.  A decreasing term policy that is overpriced.  You'd be much better off just buying a separate term life policy.
   :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D  There you go again...who said anything about a Yugo ?   Then assumptins a-plenty are made.  You seem to assume that  any other truck but your choice, won't get a person home in a snowstorm.  Not in my experience..In blizzard weather, other things being relatively equal,
  it is the driver who makes the difference..whether Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Ram or Nissan....and all the horsepower in the world won't help.
   We see videos of places where snow rarely hit...and see inexperienced drives..floorig their throttle...and only spinning themselves in deeper!
  That is rather like thinking super-duper monster cartridge...negates the need for accurate shot placement.  ;D
  Of course, from experience, the difference betwene mileage of a compact truck and the fire breathing monster is far more than 2mpg.
   Here from the EPA..
EPA Class   Vehicle   Combined
MPG
Small Pickup Trucks   Ford Maverick HEV FWD
Ford Maverick HEV FWD
2.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (variable gear ratios)
37
Standard Pickup Trucks   Chevrolet Silverado 2WD
Chevrolet Silverado 2WD
3.0 L, 6 cyl, Automatic 10-spd, Turbo, Diesel
26
Small Sport Utility Vehicles   Kia Niro FE
Kia Niro FE
1.6 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (AM-S6)
53
Standard Sport Utility Vehicles   Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD
Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD
2.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (AV-S6)
36
Minivans   Toyota Sienna Hybrid
Toyota Sienna Hybrid 2WD
2.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (AV-S6)
36
  Talking gas powered, no EVs..you will note for instance the Ford Maverick gets 37mpg, while the Chevy 6 cyl manages 26mpg...
   I looked elsewhere to check the Chevy V8, and found this .  2023 Chevrolet Silverado Cab Chassis 2WD 8 cyl, 5.3 L, Automatic 10-spd
18 combined city/highway MPG 16 city 20
    ....ONLY 2 mpg DIFFERENCE?  HARDLY...
  I no longer build silos or am building any great projects, so as to need a truck to  carry a load of lumber and 20 bags of concrete.  If I ever do, it would be far more efficent to have that once-in-two-years load delivered, rather than feed a gas hog for 2 years, buying 3 gallons of gas for every one I could be buying..waiting for the chance to show my buddies how much my truck can haul..
  Besides my grandson can do it for me if necessary...and gladly so !
  Driving big, heavy vehicles hasn't thrilled me any since I was a young tanker, and operated my 50 ton tanks..53 tons combat loaded. ..But I was
  only 19 back then..
  There is waste and there is efficency..I wouldn't use a 5 ft chain saw blade, to cut a series of 8 inch trees.  ..And my under 200 lb body isn't so
   precious, that I need to announce my arrival anywhere by way of an earth-shaking event.  (my turn at hyperbole) :D
   Now, the following statement  of yours, is the height of ridiculous..and your assumptions are faulty in the extreme..
  " I chuckle at you thinking your somehow cool because you buy tiny cars and tiny trucks. kind of reminds me of one of those college girls or bitter old lesbians with save a whale stickers and dole for president  in there back windows"
  Have you ever considered efficency..  I weigh just under 200#..why do I need 6000# vehicle, to haul my carcase around?  BTW, in case you didn't notice, many folks enjoy driving a Porsche, much more than a Freightliner..  Tanks were fun once, but I've grown up since then.
  I just don't NEED any moire than I have right now..not that I cannot afford it..but I just don't need it !  Have you heard and understood the
   conversation between the philosopher Diogenes and Alexander the Great ?   If not, check it out !
  Folks live far differing lifestyles.. You enjoy yours, fine !  I like to think mine may be shaped by my faith and a natural sense of asceticim,
   which is reflected in my lifestyle and not being impressed by 'conspicious consumerism'.
   Enjoy...I woiuldn't try to change you for a million bucks..besides, what would I do with a million bucks?  :D ;D
  Every couple years, my neighbor Chuck, sells of some of his Macks..but I guess I'll pass.  I wouldn't want to get caught up in the syndrome shown below..
That life insurance on a loan is a scam.  A decreasing term policy that is overpriced.  You'd be much better off just buying a separate term life policy.
That kind of insurance isn't even sold in Alabama anymore. Dunno why but it just is not sold here. I've actually tried to buy such a policy and been told they do not offer it. Used to be hard to buy anything and it not be added.
I'm old enough now I couldn't buy a $100,000 life insurance policy no matter how much money I had. They just will not sell one to a fellow as old as me. They will sell me a $10,000 policy that in ten years I'll have paid more than that into as payments.
I can honestly say I don't know anyone who is rich. I used to know a guy who was and was in his home a couple of times looking at his amazing firearms collection. When he died he left them to the city of Anniston, AL to be put in a museum. Parts of his collection are now on display at the Farley Burman museum in Anniston.
They of course have some more order to it than when it was at his home where you barely had a path to walk thru all the, prolly thousands, of guns he owned. He of course collected other stuff too that was on display in his home.
https://www.exploreamag.org/the-bermans-and-the-museum-1950-1999/
This one is just his bronzes:
A tiny part of his gun collection:
He had many guns that were one of a kind or one of two in the whole world. He had loads of stuff that were like James Bond props, guns disguised as something else like a tooth brush or hair brush and such.
It was truly an honor to be invited into his home to see his collection. I think the museum only displays 10% to 15% of the total collection I saw. I was talking with him and his wife and told them how much my wife would love to have seen their home and collections. They gave me a personal invitation to bring her the very next time folks from the Anniston Army Depot brought high ranking visitors to visit his home. I told my director who was there at the time what Farley had said and next visit Faye came along with me.
We were just amazed at all we saw and they were so nice and treated us as if friends rather than basically strangers in their home.
no doubt about it but then id have to talk to more insurance salesmen and at least at my bank im offered a lower interest rate if i yake the insurance that covers between 1/2 and 2/3s the cost of it depending on where interest rates are
you buy your yugo and ill stick to a real truck. one that gets me home in a snow storm. gets me out to my deer blind even if theres 2 feet of mud on the road. gets me to town shopping and home with a load of lumber or 20 bags of quick crete. gets me there without putting up with some wezzy 4 cyl that gets MAYBE 2 more mpg than my v8. keeps me comfortable when its over 90. a music loving guy like you should appriciate a stereo better then the one you had in your home in the 70s. nobody here is stupid. i here all the time what do you need a car or truck like that for. or a boat, snowmobile, harely that nice for. or what do you need more than 3 guns for.
99 times out of a 100 it comes from someone who either settled for a crappy job or spent his life on welfare or made poor life decisions and cant afford whatt someone else has so instead of admitting failure criticizes the smart guy for wasting money. like i said your old enough that any day could be your last and you sure as crap cant take it with you. my wife is set if i die. she wont get a pile of money but between the house the camp and all my toys (and hers) that i dont owe a dime on along with my pension could live like a queen. So you tell me the logic in me trying to buy the cheapest tin can i can for a truck.
Heck i could even buy a new 100k pickup put life insurance on the loan and use it while it acts as a life insurance policy. if i die its paid off and she can sell it take the money and buy what she wants. this is the only time in most of my life i dont have a truck payment with insurance on it. kind of silly but 8% interest that biden created and all the manufactures that kissed his ass with this stupid ev thing and lost money and now want me to pay for their folly just pisses me off enough to tell them to shove it. maybe in a couple years when theyve ate enough crow and have to beg us to buy a truck so they can stay solvent ill change my mind. but i will say that without a doubt it will have to be an even cooler truck then i own to get my interest. ive had the bug for a diesel for quite a while. yup because you cant afford a more expensive truck or house or anything else you a better christian and i have the mentality of a murdering dictator :o. so your also so talented that you can drive a 2x4 truck as well in a blizard as i can a full sized 4x4 ::). ive send my wife to work on one of the worse 5 mile stretches of road not only in MI but in the midwest. its is closed more than all other roads in mi are combined. its 30 yards from the shore of lake superior with no wind break. she drove it in a small buick for half of one winter and came home crying. we went and bought her a new full sized chev 4x4. she sat up higher and could see better through the snow wash of the tires of the vehicle ahead of here. had much better traction and control in 4x4 auto mode and a full sized steel frame and some actual sheet metal to protect her. if you want to send yours out or have her get caught in one with less i guess thats your call. I live in snow country. the up of mi gets between 300-600 inches of snow a year. im sure not macho here with a big 4x4 because ever mom driving to work like my wife has one. id bet 80 percent of working class familys have a 4x4 truck or at least a sport utility. crap anyone one with a brain that can afford one has one. the poor people just drive older rusty ones. id be willing to bet you a grand that you could come up here for a week and couldnt find 3 2x4 pickups in the whole county. not like that in upstate ny?  maybe then dee is a little right about the liberal save the planet mentality has a place in upstate ny just like in the city.
