New gun laws in MI
« on: December 09, 2023, 02:37:57 PM »
I see online that our Governor
got a law passed where all guns including long guns and shotguns where you will need to get a background check before purchasing.
I have heard it will become law as of February 14 2024. I don’t know how this will work at gun shows as it doesn’t seem workable to me ?  :'(
So far I don’t know if antique guns will be exempt from this or not.

Not saying I approve, but many states have that law. What I noticed when Oregon passed it, the shaved head guys with tattoos, and guys with dark skin and not speaking English no longer show up at the gun shows. You may think that is good or bad, but it is what happened here.

The law sounds like it will affect me a lot. I buy sell and trade a lot of guns. All long guns and no AR’s so selling at a gun show may be over in MI ?
I am still close enough to OH and may just do my selling at shows there ?  I have seen this coming for some time but was hoping that the state of MI would go back to the Republicans.
From what I understand, I can go to any local law enforcement office and apply for a license to buy/ sell long guns which I will do but wonder how many others will bother ?
I plan to do that this week !

you already get a background check on every new rifle or handgun you buy from a dealer and i have no problem with that. from what i understand is this now requires a background check if your doing a private transaction. no big deal "i sold that gun 5 years ago"  i wont sell a gun to someone i dont know anyway. if they commit a crime with it i dont want it coming back to me so i only sell to conservatives i know. if im going to want to sell to strangers id want some kind of paper trail anyway

Warming up an older thread.

Planned on going to the Mason gun show earlier this year....first for me since the pandemic.  Stopped at the sheriff's office/jail and tossed drivers license and $5 in the pass through to a faceless person behind blacked out glass. Purchase document passed back 5 minutes later.   Good for 30 days.   Feeling lucky so made a couple of copies.

No ATF/SOM regulated treasures at the show but picked up a TC Encore 20 ga slug barrel on the way back to the truck.

Exactly what I was thinking..we are already going through backhground checks.  Of course, our deranged governor in NY, has arranged so even
private sales must go through a background check !..

In Oregon we are still in the court struggle to invalidate that requirement. It has been a long fight so far.
