Synthetic Encore Stock-Fill it up?????
« on: March 25, 2004, 08:37:10 AM »
I will be swapping out the pad on my encore stock for the pre fit one from Sims.  Is there any benefit to filling the inside of a hollow stock with the expanding insulating foam that you can get in a can (i.e. GreatStuff)?

I thought it might deaden the hollow sound and possibly reduce recoil in some fashion.

I welcome your input.

I did it to a Rem 700 ADL one time and it did take some of the hollow sound out of it.  My Encore's camo stock doesn't have that sound to it.  Mine feels pretty solid, the 700 could be squeezed together with your hand.

I filled my encore butt stock with foam carpet padding. After cutting it into about 8"x 8" pieces I took a wood dowel and packed three pieces into the stock. I then cut a piece of thick foam to fit into the back of the stock which holds the carpet pad in and gives the recoil pad something to rest on. This added a couple onces in weight and took the hollow sound away.
It is better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it!!
