From what I have read, only England and the recently joined East European nations have paid their fair share into NATO, like Poland, Romania, and Hungary.  Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc, the Western Europeans who have more money have not paid their fair share into NATO until Trump was president.  NATO's members are to contribute 2% of their GDP to the alliance. 

The East European nations were glad to get out from under the old Soviet Union, which was controlled by Russia.

  Yes, the old Soviet Union is dissolved, but a common enemy remains.  Today that common enemy is defined as the axis block...Russia, Iran, China,
  N Korea, sundry other countries.

   ..And that enemy has fifth columnists here at home, in the form of some professors and students of the ivy league colleges.

the idea of nato isnt bad. whats bad is the leaders of this country decided for some reason we should pay for most of it. what its become is like a homeless shelter or the border. if you cant take care of yourself we will do it for you and hell we will even throw some money your way

If Europe thinks they need a NATO let them have one. We don't have to be in it.

at least until china, russia, iran and korea combind have troops coming in here. probably right through the open border in texas. 10 years ago maybe but today we couldnt stand up to even china by itself without help.

 NATO, while a good idea when it was formed, has morphed into another organization that takes money, blows a lot of hot air, and does very little with it. Like the UN. Time to get out and take care of our own problems here.

Sweden does still have its own defense companies and being a member of NATO, could help their industry as they have bucked the let Uncle Sam do it for decades, while being some what of a pain in the arse to U.S. defense industry.

Way back when the U.S. Falcon air-to-air missile was a cluster F, Sweden was using it and their electronic industry fixed all the screw-ups in the system that they inherited and used it until the Viggen Interceptor was retired decades later.
