Datsun 620 pickup

Every now and then, some thing pops up that is new to me, even if it was around when I was in my Gearhead haydays.
This truck is entirely new to me.

I came across this site recently and it is rather refreshing and interesting in it own way.

  I wasn't aware of that truck either.  I had a 1969, 1971 and a 1973 Datsun pickups, all regular 2/3 just standard cabs.  I liked each one a great deal.

pontiac? im no fan ow wheel skirt
datsun? never saw that model. did any make it to the states? im not much on little trucks but have always loved el camino's and its kind of got that vibe

  Is this one possibly  a one-off custom?  I Googled Datsun 620 pickup, and got what you see below.  Photo taken where palm trees are in
   abundance.

  Rather interesting place for gas filler flap..  Some may like it, but I would have stuck with the conventional pickup, even if that one were available.

  It does resemble the Honda Ridgeline, however..

Yup, that is Datsun's version of the El Camino , Ford Ranchero.

I still loathe the fact that for Gearhead stuff , without a computer and access to on-line stuff , the source of information is dying, but I guess I am going to have give-in and stop trying to find print rags where there used to be a LOT of information and history in print.

  Loks pretty good!  So, back in 1977 huh? It seems like Datsun preceeded the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz, and the Honda Ridgeline by quite a few years.  ..Four passenger, no frame truck...  Subaru and Gm are expecting tbo follow soon.

  Camino and Ranchero, not the same..they were 2 passenger.
