No. 7 for 45acp
« on: February 24, 2024, 02:51:48 PM »
Checked out my old AA load manual, and seen some loads for the ,45acp with No. 7. Seen where the top load was 1000fps with a 200gr HP. Got me interested. Not really a hot rodder when it comes to loading, accuracy first. But that has me interested. If I can keep a load like that on a 8'' steel swinger at 20-25 yds., be good enough for me. Anybody ever use AA No. 7 and what kind of results?? Usually about 6gr. of Bullseye keeps me happy. But, what the hell!
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Haven't used that one.
The AA powders I've used
were AA2520 and AA1680
and they worked just fine.
I've used some Ramshot TAC
but not long enough IMO to be
as sure of it myself. I'm getting
the impression that all of the
Western products are pretty good,
so there shouldn't be any problem.
I started using the ones I've used
back when they were considerably
less expensive than the traditional
powders I started with. They're sure
easier to find now than some of the
others. Been considering getting
some 9 to try. I've always used 2400
and Unique for all my peestol loading
but I'm not sure how long I'll be able
to find those
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Tried #7 in 357 and 44mag..prefer #9
I've always liked Bullseye in all my .45autos.
Tightgroup can be pretty good also...

ramshot exterminator is 2230 tac is blc2 or in surplus wc844 and wc846. the surplus is about gone but back in the day all AA powder was repackaged surplus. now all of these are just powder spec'ed out the same.  in a different jug. ive never used anything slower then 231 in the 45acp. for rounds like the 45 40 and 9 i look for the fastest powder that gets me to the velocity i want and today have about settled on aa2 for all of them. again from my surplus days as aa2, br2, and pr200 are all the same. its clean burning very accurate and economical even buying aa2 because your going to use a 1/3 less than something like aa7. honestly ive never used aa7 for anything. in that burn rate i always used hs6 because it did so well in the linebaughs or 2400 for the others. but i guess if i had a jug of it to burn up id find a way to stuff it in and shoot it up.

I'm not a huge "pistol guy" and tend to lean on my long guns from another Zip Code to do my shooting.
