Excellent Hog Gun 35 Rem Marlin...
« on: March 26, 2004, 05:04:29 AM »
We all have are reasons for which rifle we hunt with...that's why I hog hunt with a Marlin 336 35 Rem...why you may ask...it shoulders quickly medium recoil...it's a good size and weigh bullet that travels at a moderate speed...but produces a big hole with tremendous internal shock...which equals more than average killing power needed...

This gun is not a 200 yard plus gun...it's a great 150 yarder for hogs deer black bear...not too mention it has stopped it's share of elk and moose...a short range bruiser that doesn't bruise you...

There's lots of great ammo our there in 35 Rem...I prefer the following...
Remington 200 gr Core-Lokt SP
Conley Precision 200 gr Hornady FN
BuffaloBore 220 gr JFN which will stop anything that crosses you're path...

For hunting under 150 yards this is an all around rifle...but as always shot placement is the key...

Excellent Hog Gun 35 Rem Marlin...

5th Group,

I agree.  If I had it to do over my first Marlin would have been a .35 and then my 444S.  The .35 will kill anything I hunt in Oklahoma or Texas and with more authority than my 30-30.  AND I think a reloader would make the .35 really shine.

i once  read  where  a  guy  really  stroked  the  35  up  and  used   it  for  200  yards  shots    the  funny  thing  was  he  was  doing  a  gun  test  and  took  it  sheep  hunting  he  wanted  to test  the  penetration  at  extreme  ranges  which  he  bagged  a  sheep  at  175 yards  and  got  full  penetration impressive  to  me

Excellent Hog Gun 35 Rem Marlin...

My son uses a 35 rem marlin for almost all his hunting and even for silhouette matches. I load a rcbs homemade bullet for it , a 35-200-fp, It will knock over the rams at 250 yards easily and it's only a 2150 fps load. Last year he got a deer and a turkey with it. The turkey was 150 yards and the deer was exactly 100 yards at a feeder. It laid down right on the spot when that bullet hit. The 35 is an awsome gun and should get a lot more credit than t does. My boy is gonna use it in a CAS shoot next weekend. I know it's not a true CAS gun but it's the action type they are more concerned with here from what I'm told. They bend the rules a little for my m-14 in the military matches too. I leave my scope mount on and it has a heavy target barrel. In a non bedded stock with iron sights it's no better than most of the other guns out there.
If any of you reading this have never tried a 35 rem then go out and do it. They are a game getter!
Oh if anybody wants to try those cast bullets let me know.
