Brownells and Big Loop Levers
« on: March 26, 2004, 05:16:30 AM »
I placed an order with Brownells, it's going on 4 or 5 months ago for one of those big loop levers ($125).  I think they're made by DRC(?)  I've called a couple of times and they're STILL on backorder.  Has anyone else ordered such a lever and did you ever receive it?

Hi Nobody   :D  - I'm also still waiting for them to come off backorder so that I can get one for my 336. I had DRC install one on my guide gun while he was doing some modifications to it. They're worth the wait! I've heard on other forums that DRC's in the process of moving to a bigger shop so that's probably one of the reasons they're taking so long.

Could you tell me why one would want the big loop lever?  What is the advantage to it?  AS far as I know, the only movie John Wayne used one in was True Grit where he does the twirly thing with the carbine.  It looked kind of senseless to me when I saw the movie, and I still don't see why someone would want to install one on a perfectly good gun.  Obviously my education is lacking...

Ok, since you've admitted your education is lacking I'll explain it to you.

When I put my finger on the trigger and my other 3 fingers through the factory installed loop, the loop is t-o-o s-m-a-l-l.  In order to shoot with a grip that's even close to being comfortable, I've got to put just two fingers through the loop and leave my little finger on the outside of the loop.   Otherwise, ALL of my fingers through the loop are squeezed tightly.

So, with the big loop lever, the one you don't like, I hope to be able to shoot more comfortably.

I've watched very few John Wayne movies, and none that I can remember, that has him doing the "twirly thing."

Nobody - The DRC glove lever eliminates that problem for me which was why I didn't care for levers for a long time!  :x  Winter Hawk - Your right the a big loop lever like the Duke used is too big for pratical use but the DRC lever is smaller and works well with gloves on. I don't know why Marlin can't just make it a little bigger right from the factory... CEJ..

Got a notice the other day from Brownells.  It says that the supplier is unable to deliver the product and that I'll be in the first group to be notified when it does come in.

Sounds a lot more serious than just being on backorder.

Went to the NRA convention and while there talked to the Marlin crew.  Mentioned the small size of the lever and was told about a company named Numrich www.e-gunparts.com.  They sell a big loop that, so the advertisement goes, will fit pistol grip stocks.  DANG DANG, DOUBLE HECK DANG!!!  And it sells for $69!!!!!!  Why am I so annoyed?  Cause I got a straight stock!!!

I'm gonna' get me a penknife and start whittlin' a pistol grip.

WINTER HAWK
I too have a problem with the small lever due to large hands,, when i get my hand in the lever it gets stuck and it very uncomfortable. I have often wandered if they had a bunch of midgets building the marlin lever action guns, Thats my two cents,,,good luck.    Joe
