Non Lethal Protection
« on: June 18, 2024, 04:43:34 PM »
Anybody seen or have any real experience with these ‘non lethal launchers’. Made by Byrna or Salt Supply? My brother bought one and seems to be sold on it. It’s a handgun (called a launcher), that fires either a plastic ball (@ about 300 fps) or a tear gas projectile. Supposed to be good for self defense without lethality and can be carried places you can’t carry an actual firearm.

I’ve got some reservations about them myself. Mostly curious, can’t see ever getting one.

Having anything resembling a firearm
here is prosecuted the same as having
a genuine functional firearm, so there
wouldn't be any advantage to have any
anything otherwise.
That, and these pinhead hoodrats think
gunplay is the ultimate thing in life, so
one would be at a disadvantage to be
"armed " but not really be armed
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Yeah, I feel the same. Pulling something non-lethal and spurring a deadly situation wouldn’t end well. People continue assaults after being shot, I don’t see a big plastic pellet as being a deterrent. Certainly not a game ender.

I have no experience with such devices, but can understand trhat there were certain situations whereby one could be on hand.  Perhaps somebody
has a loved one who is a bit paranoid with guns..a wife, mother or aunt.  Having a less than lethal may make them OK with the defensive weapon.

I would suggest it is better than a rolling pin... or flower pot...

I’ve been told there are some LEOs that carry these in lieu of tasers. Could this be?

Well, it appears it can be. The truck driver’s situation (as a civilian), makes sense for the use of one. Too bad it’s the size of a duty gun. I wouldn’t want to carry one exclusively but two arms would be a bit much to carry just to have options. One packed in my truck…not a problem.
