I'm selling a T/C Firehawk .54 caliber and getting a .50 caliber Encore rifle. I already have an Encore 209x50 pistol. I've got about 5 cartons of Pyrodex .54/60s. (I tend to stock up at end-of-year sales) Can I use the .54s safely in a .50 rifle or pistol, providing of course that I don't go over the maximum load for the firearm?
The .54s slide easily down a clean .50 barrel. Do they need the extra .04 pellet-to-barrel gap for ignition? Is this going to affect accuracy at all?
In the case of the Encore pistol, combining one .54/60 with one .50/50 will give me the maximum allowable load of 110.
The Encore rifle has a max load of 150, so I could try 110 and 120 grains also, without buying .50/30 pellets.
Will this work O.K, or is there some problem that I'm not seeing?
