The country where I live is very rugged, and the type of hunting I once did isn't possible for me anymore. My hunting buddy and I still like to get out and hunt timber grouse (Ruffed and Blue), on old logging roads. This year we decided to get a deer tag and if we happen to get a shot in a location that is suited for our tired old bodies to retrieve one, we might do so. Most of the country here is straight up, or down. Way up or Way down lol. Most of our hunts are limited to open wooded areas. 50 yd. and closer shots. We don't use stands like they do back east. We do the spot and stalk type of hunting. Now it's a lot of spotting and not so much walking. We leave the huge clearcut areas for the young folk to glass and snipe Deer or Elk.
This year, I'll take a rifle I have never hunted with before. The left likes to say they are guns that are only made to kill people with and should be eradicated. A 7.62x39 in an AR platform. It's my modern 30/30. "Sort of." Deer don't know the difference.
