Assassin hits United Health executive.
« on: December 06, 2024, 07:59:46 AM »
Yes; head of United Health has been murdered in NY City.

Yes, the health care iundustry seems at times to be without  heart or understanding..and as one reporter said trhis morning, United Health
    may be the worst !

However, this is beyond the pale...not the way things should be done.  There is a civilized way to handle our gripes.

Then again, we ytend to assume this is a disgruntled consumer...but the guilty party may just be a person who thrives upon violence.

Looks like they are quickly tracing him though.  It appears he left his cell phone behind, and it is reported that the rounds and cases his gun ejected
were inscribed with a cryptic message.? What?

CEO made $10M annually in the command of a net profit multi-billion dollar health care company - same one I use. Assasin probably IS disgruntled! I know I am.

He bought Starbucks coffee and left behind DNA on the cup and burner phone in the trash. They have his video on the subway back to his flophouse. They have a pretty clear view of the guy's face. Wont be long till they catch him.

As IG says, "not the way things should be done". But the same can be said of the way most Insurance companies operate (and I might observe banks as well). I'd hazard a guess that our world would look much different without them. More rural population, less industrial development, more autocratic government. Hmmm... would we like that any better?

I find it interesting that other insurance companies are removing their CEO's photos from websites, and they are further isolating and insulating themselves with more layers of security.  It still amazes me that otherwise intelligent businessmen can NOT SEE the other side of what they're doing.  Seems to me that if you treat your paying customers well, you don't have to worry about personal security.  However, if you take their money for decades, then when you're needed, you tell them that you no longer cover that in their policy, then surely SOMEONE, SOMETIME, is gonna get pissed enough to show you the error of your ways.

I suggest that thought process works for politicians, too.....Roger

I think it was someone pissed because an insurance claim didn't get paid, or his wife that he was separated from, had him knocked off. I'm sure he had a nice fat insurance policy on himself. Upon his death, I'm sure the wifey gets it.

YOU.

I thought so, but there were others that had posted, and you failed to quote me, so it was a little "up-in-the-air".

Sorry, I keep forgetting to up-size my font for your benefit.

Supposedly they got a guy they are questioning they caught in Altoona Pa. at a McDonalds. A McDonalds employee called authority's from matching photos of him posted online.  It does sound like they got the right guy. If this is true, again a citizen was instrumental in him getting caught. Which is often the way it happens.

CEO Slaying Suspect Ivy Leaguer Fond of Unabomber
« Reply #10 on: December 09, 2024, 09:48:46 AM »
https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/luigi-mangione-brian-thompson-ted-kaczynski/2024/12/09/id/1190968/

The person of interest nabbed in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is an anti-capitalist Ivy League graduate who liked online quotes from “Unabomber’’ Ted Kaczynski — and apparently hated the medical community because of how it treated a sick relative, law-enforcement, sources told the New York Post on Monday.

Luigi Mangione, 26, has not been charged in the slaying but was taken into custody Monday morning in Altoona, Pennsylvania, ending a manhunt sparked by the execution of Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel last week, the Post reported. He was caught with a ghost gun that uses 9 mm bullets, a silencer, a U.S. passport, four fake IDs with names used during the suspect’s stay in New York City, and a manifesto, sources said.

Mangione had a particularly personal reason to hate the medical community — its treatment of an ailing relative, sources said.

Online obituaries showed a grandmother of his died in 2013 and a grandfather in 2017.

His LinkedIn page indicated that he once worked in an assisted-living facility for the elderly for a few months in 2014 while in high school.

The alleged shooter is believed to have acted alone. It is unknown if Mangione has made any statements to police.

Mangione also subscribed to anti-capitalist and climate change causes, according to law-enforcement sources, citing online activity gleaned by authorities.

On the Goodreads website, Mangione’s account showed quotes he particularly liked ranging from Socrates to Bruce Lee — to Kaczynski, the infamous anti-establishment “Unabomber’’ who terrorized the country for nearly two decades by dispatching deadly bombs before he was nabbed in 1996.

“Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness,’’ Kaczynski wrote in a quote liked by Mangione. “Science fiction. It is already happening to some extent in our own society.

"Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect, antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual’s internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.’’

Mangione was valedictorian of his 2016 high school class at the Gilman School in Baltimore, where he played soccer, according to online sites. High school tuition at the all-boys school is nearly $40,000 a year.

He said at the time of graduation that he planned to seek a degree in artificial intelligence, focused on the areas of computer science and cognitive science at the University of Pennsylvania, according to an interview with the Baltimore Fishbowl.

The suspect graduated cum laude from the private Ivy League institution in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science, and Computer and Information Science in 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also completed a Master of Science in Engineering, Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, his profile stated.

For me, one of the questions is "what do they mean by Ghost Gun?" I'll bet it turns out to be a way to push for an end to home made guns, not what most seem to mean by a ghost gun.

From the Brady bunch;

   What are ghost guns?
Ghost Guns are unserialized (and therefore untraceable) firearms that are put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. These firearms are fully functioning guns that are as lethal as a fully finished, serialized firearm.

These parts and kits have long been intentionally marketed as unregulated and untraceable to appeal to those who seek to use them in crimes.

In August 2022, a rule issued by the Biden-Harris administration went into effect to prevent the spread of ghost guns by clarifying that all ghost gun kits and some parts are required to be serialized, sold by a licensed dealer, and are subject to a Brady Background Check

That is the general definition, but what was described last weekend was a firearm designed to fire meds into big animals you don't want to get close to. I wouldn't call that a ghost gun, I don't know about others.

FOX news said it was a 9mm and was made completely via 3D printing. He also made a silencer the same way so says FOX.

I've heard that from other sources also. Hard to believe a complete gun, with quality steel could be printed out..

..But then, I am not as tech savvy as some are..

One of the law enforcement gents , earlier yesterday, said parts of the gun had to be bought but how he got it, and what it really was , was not yet revealed.

Any kit gun put together has a serial number on the frame, or receiver. Thats if its done legally. Then there are all kinds of laws that have to be met to be able to own and carry that firearm legally. Ghost gun, kit gun, serial number, or no seral number. Its not legal to shoot someone in the back because you felt you were wronged, or screwed over on some insurance policy. My opinion, if he is the guy, and found guilty. He should get the death penalty. He certainly met all the requirements to receive it.

No they don't, thanks again to big city leftists ! In fact there is no first degree murder charge, unless the victim is a LEO or a politician.

...But the killer can still get a life sentence..

Looking up Mangione's family, there are good people.
I seems they made the mistake of sending their boy to an Ivy League schoo, but then the High School he went to cost 40,000 a yearl.

Does this fall in the category of the Marie Antoinette case? 26 years old, read he had some back problems, not sure if his health care provider was United Health or not.  It would have been less of a surprise, if a boomer somewhere in our age bracket, 70 and up, found out they had cancer or ???, and only had a few months to live. Been denied health insurance for whatever reason, and said the hell with it. Looked at a executive making 10 million a year, plus bonuses because they denied him, and figured he'd get better health care the last few months sitting in prison.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Actually if one has a frame you can build a gun. Take for instance the 1911 with thousands of parts available. Just obtain a frame and you can build it.

Funny how everything is known about Mangione in a couple days, but still know nothing about Crooks.

IF - you have the tools and capability you can build your own weapons for yourself, including a machine gun.

You cannot build and sell them, with out a permit/license (there are 11 levels) or produce more than necessary prototypes to  produce a finished product , with out a ATF license, but you do not need an ATF form to build YOUR own firearm for your own reason.
It was this way , at least , when I was in gunsmith school, in the oughts.
Talked to some ATF boys about what one can do , and they volunteered little know things a person can do, but just for himself.
