Syria becoming a democracy?
« on: December 09, 2024, 11:38:16 AM »

Just heard a political historian in Syria respond to the question of whether they would move to democracy with a response something like this: "The rebels just confiscated all the fire arms, what do you think"?

What DO you think?

Not likely..but we should give them a chance.  Trying to promote freedom in places where people don't want freedom, is what has given us many
problems and many wars in recent times (20th century).

Ya but if you confiscate the firearms won't that solve all the problems? That's what they tell us here.

Religions in that part of the world have been killing each other for thousands of years. Not just between the Jews and the Muslims, the Sunni's and Shia's but the other 4-5 sects of Muslims. Making slaves out of the women, controlling governments. Not sure they know any different. Probably won't change in our lifetime.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Like our lefties... for the Islamics, the words "individual freedom" are not in their lexicon..
