Gonic Muzzleloader for Contender

Any one out there had any experience with the .50 caliber muzzleloader barrel for Contenders?  Just picked up one in satainless at a local gun show.  They're rated for a pretty heavy load, but I wondered what people found comfortable to shoot from them and wwhat kind of performance one can expect from a 15" frontloader.   This one was made by the Gonic Company in Gonic NH.  Attractive in an ugly sort of way--or is it ugly in an attractive sort of way?

Hi Mayor, Nope never shot one but have seen several.  I do have a TC Scout .50 caliber pistol w/ 12" barrel.  I shoot 100gr pyrodex and 350gr Maxi-hunter.  I have had it hit the bill of my cap when shooting from the bench.  I've never done that with my 45-70.  It has hammered a couple of deer.  It's a hoot!  GOOD SHOOTING', Walt  :)

I didnt know that gonic made 50 cal barrels in 15 inch. I know they made them in 45 cal in 16 inch. Do you have a picture of this barrel you can post I would like to see it.

I do have a 14 inch 209x50 bullberry for my contender. It is my main deer hunting barrel (not by choice) I have takes a nice buck with it a few years ago.

Hey, Rickyp.  Can't post a picture of the barrel.  It has the easy start muzzle much like the muzzle on my Encore rifle and takes 209 primers, but the breech plug/nipple is much simpler.  There is no extractor as such for the primer, but a little primer pick wrench comes with it.  Had a nice composite forend with it and floresent sights.  Altogether a fairly nicely built and finished barrel.  It locked up beautifully with the first frame I tried it on. The T/C nut I bought it from said it shot real well.  Guess I'll  be the judge of that!  Anxious to try it and a couple other barrel I have coming.  That's three in one week.  I actually walked away from a .221 Fireball that I really wanted and a beautiful eight inch octagonal .22  Hornet that would have been an asset to my growing collection.  Great will power.  Stop me before I buy more!!!!!  Wayne

I've got a Gonic Arms 16 inch, .45 cal, muzzle loader barrel.  Still new in the box.  It came with a frame that I "really had to have" at the time.  It is well made, has a ram rod, wooden fore arm an takes the 209 primers.  I may have to take it out of the box and read the literature that came with it.
I just hate to clean black powder.

With a black powder barrel do you have to have a 16+

barrel to use the shoulder stock? For regular Bp I know it doesnt mater but becouse the contender is a centerfire pistol with a muzzle loading barrel on it does it make a difference? or can a 14" 50 caliber barrel use the shoulder stock? I don't own either barrel and DO NOT use the stock on my frame without a 16+ barrel on their first. Just wondering about the BP option on the T/C?

I have not thought about this. but I would think it would be the same as the rifles. This may be worth checking into. A 14 inch barreld muzzleloader would be real handy.

I know some or the newer design muzzle loaders(I know the encore with a ML barrel surely does) now require you to buy through a FFL

I can get a muzzleloader barrel for my contender?!?!  I've been trying to decide how to hunt deer in Communist New York (across the road)- maybe this is the answer, not to mention an excuse for a new barrel.  Should be cheaper than a new shotgun, right?

Tell me more.  I guess it would have to be carbine length so I can get it across the border.  Who's got'em & what can I expect to pay for one?  I assume I can scope it as easily as my other barrels?

Any New York hunters out there who can offer any insights to assist me in my plan?  This might be getting slightly off-topic, but can anyone tell me if I can take a handgun into New York for, say, a match, or gunsmithing, or like that?  BTW, apologies for the Communist thing- there's some great country over there, but I wouldn't live there for anything...
