has anyone used one of these brakes?
how do the affect the barrel harmonics if at all?
how effective are they

Sorry but I'm not familiar with any such brake but brakes as a whole do have an effect on barrel harmonics. Thats how the BOSS system works. It allows adjustment of the barrel harmonic via a threaded section that afjusts the length of the brake and it's weight distribution..

I installed one on a 300 Wby. Mag for a customer, and then test fired it both with brake on and off. My sensation with brake on was that I had just fired a 243. Also the noise and muzzle blast from the shooters perspective was not nearly as bad as I have experienced firing other braked rifles. It was the ugliest brake I've ever seen on a hunting rifle, though.

Yes, it works. A 300 Weatherby Mag with JP brake felt like a 243 Win.

I guess it would make a rem 700 in 308 or 30-06 feel like a 22 mag

That's not a realistic assumption. The effectiveness of a brake is directly related to the volume of gas produced and the muzzle pressure of those gases. Simce most modern centerfires produce in the neighborhood of 50-60 K pounds of chamber pressure the real determining factor of the brakes effectiveness is the volume of gas. The bigger the case, the greater the powder charge the better a brake likes it.

I like the VAIS brake. Great recoil reduction, and doesn't rip your ears off when you shoot it.
I've used several different kinds of muzzle brakes. There is a lot of difference from one to the next. I've found the VAIS to be the best of the bunch, and cheaper than a lot of them.

I've only installed 1 Vias brake, on a 300 RUM. I didn't get the chance to test this one. I've installed 3 KDF brakes. One on a 270 Win, which was very effective in reducing recoil. Another on a Remington Model 7 in 243 Win; this one felt like a 22 LR but the muzzle blast was really bad. Both of the above KDF's were same diameter as barrel. I did install a large KDF on a 458 Win Mag and really could not tell any difference in recoil, brake on or off. If there was any reduction in recoil, it was not much.
