Hollywood Westerns
« on: February 12, 2025, 02:02:33 AM »
As I recover from Pulmonary embolism surgery, I have a lot of frre time and watch Hollywood Western movies.

If those depictions tend toward any sense of reality, western frontier life was cheap.  Bad guys and tired cattle drivers rode into town, got drunk, started fights, shot one another indiscriminately, rode away, ganged up, fought the law, and it "looks" like a lot of Hollywood.

Two great, classic westerns ...  "SHANE"  and "HIGH NOON"..  Perhaps "TRUE GRIT" also...  (IMO)

I tried reading some westerns.. just for a fiction break from my usual non-fiction reading, but I just couldn't persevere with it.

I can't take a book very serious, where the hero is in a fist fight every other day, and a gunfight on the remaining days.

For me, if I indulge in fiction, it at least has to be plausible...

The Searchers , with John Wayne is considered one of the best Westerns.

As I've got older, I have to keep my mouth shut, as to not spoil a movie somebody might be watching. I call it Hollywood B.S. And it's not just the westerns. When you see the hero of the movie take on 8-10 guys in a fight scene, and one or 2 punch's, and the bad guy is out. But, when the villian of the movie gets into it with him, chairs, tables, rolling down flights of stairs, falling out of a window from 5 floors up, and they still are going at it?? I know it's suppose to be entertainment, but, hard to keep quiet.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Guns with unlimited ammunition. Machine guns fired from multiple positions and NEVER is the good guy hit. Good guy kills with EVERY pull of his trigger.  Yeah. I get it. TOTAL CRAP.
