Black Powder replacement
« on: February 12, 2025, 08:47:48 AM »
I read, whether online or in-print I forget, approx. 8-9 years ago about a black powder replacement that was mostly smokeless.
Does any one here recall that also?

think your refering to jim shockleys american pioneer. it burned super clean but i could never get acurracy from it and its discontinued so i probably wasnt the only one. now i use blackthorn 209. a bit dirtier but not much and it ignites well even below zero and is accurate

I was using triple seven and it’s cleaner then some but still needed to be cleaned right away. Now I’m using smokeless in either a encore with a trimmed 22 hornet case in a breech plug that accommodates it or a savage ml 2 which is muzzle heavy. I must say that traditional black powder is kinda cool with the blinding cloud of white smoke.

switch to blackthorn. it burns much cleaner than trip 7 is easier to ignite when its cold and is more accurate and poa doesnt change drasticaly with temp swings like trip 7
