Cal. 7.92mm. NSN. Bbl. 30 7/8". Early bolt action rifle submitted unsuccessfully for Belgium government trials of 1888 that resulted in adoption of the Mauser 1889. Unusual design with bolt that rotates forward to lock action. Right side of action has lg. rnd. rotating safety. Left side of receiver marked "Manufacture Liegeoise D'Armes A Feu". Right side of receiver marked "Systeme Engh Brevete Modele 1888". Box. mag. designed for stripper clip loading. Adjustable leaf rear sight. Full length 2 band walnut stock with walnut handguard. Stock has wraparound hand checkering at wrist & forearm areas. Front swivel is bbl. band mounted. Right side of stock is grooved for steel cleaning rod. CONDITION: 90% original blue. Bolt has good bright polish. Very good refinished wood. Rear bbl. band has loose fit. Good bore. (01-10754 was 14-7505/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1200.
