I used to raise Jack Russell's also. Ole Huff was a go getter in the woods, a good runnin buddy on a 4 wheeler, and a rock solid watch dog and protector. He was fearless.

I've thought about getting a ruff coat for a house/truck Jack but, they've gotten so expensive I can't afford to buy one.

Yes, pets or dogs of any kind are expensive; not just to buy, but also to maintain.  I used to go to the Vet for a shot or other procedure, and it was
done at a minimum of time and expense.

Now days.at least around here... with labs, X-rays tests or whatever..try getting away for less that $200 to $300.

My friend, a retired Vet, says the high cost of education (academia/government complex) has jacked things up.  Then comes the costly diagnosis
  gear.. X-ray, sono, labs etc.

He says they used to spend many hours learning diagnostics..and I can recall how he could look my dog over for a few minutes..and make a proper diagnosis..
He also said he could work hard through the summer, and make enough to cover his tuition through the rest of the year.  With the _government/academia complex working, that is no longer possible.

I don't worry about vet bills because I have a limit when it comes to pets but, Jack's down here run anywhere from $600.00 to $3,000.00.
