Anschutz hornet
« on: March 31, 2004, 03:54:07 PM »
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with anschutz hornets. I was just looking at one and was'nt terribly impressed with the bolt... like a bigger rimfire with one rear lug. Have they stood up to it over the years?
My initial reaction was to pass over it, but I thought I might seek some opinions here.
Thanks, Gaz.

Gaz,
A mate had one years ago and loaded it pretty hot with Win680 powder. Nothing let go and he was loading hotter than I do in a Brno 465. I've got all his brass from when he sold the rifle and its still pretty good, ie tight primer pockets etc... My mates biggest mistake was selling it for a Ruger 223Rem. The Hornet is a great little cartidge and the Anschutz a fine rifle.
Cheers...

Con,
Thanks for your reply. Actually, I've just found a Brno 465 in really good shape and I will try it out next week. If it shoots as good as it looks, I'm going to grab it. In fact I have just posted off the application for a "Permit to Aquire".
I'm a bit of a sucker for anything "retro"!
All the best,
Gaz.

Gaz,
Gorgeous walk-about varmint rifles the Brno ZKW465s. Get a gunsmith to check the headspace, it's worth it as the lugs are soft and prone to set back. Early Brno's also had 0.223 barrels. Mine was very tempermental until I bedded and floated the barrel. Much nicer now, shoots around MOA which is all I need. How much is the one you've found selling for?

Thanks for the tip about the headspace. It's priced at $995 (Oz). It has a scope and looks almost mint. The next thing is to find out how the little blighter shoots!
The guy also has a "Fox" model, but the 465 is cleaner and looks a lot more appealing to me.
