ATTN: KS Residents CCW Bill Update!
« on: April 02, 2004, 06:20:43 AM »
Guys,

A bill that would allow Kansans to carry concealed weapons is headed for the governor's desk, where it is almost certain to be vetoed.
The House voted 78-46 today to approve changes made to the concealed carry bill by the Senate. One of those would allow Kansans to carry concealed guns in the Statehouse, which was prohibited in the House version of the bill.
Here’s a lift from the KS Sportsman’s Alliance page:

The senate just passed the "The Personal and Family Protection Act". The vote was 28 to 12 in favor.
There were many attempts to weaken the bill by Senators Vratil and Olean. They tried to expand places where permit holders could not carry. They tried to insert an assault weapons ban and a five day waiting period for handguns. They also tried to add language that required individual Kansas residents to use an FFL whenever they sold personal firearms: the alleged “gun show loophole.” None of these amendments were added to the bill.

The language added in the Fed and State Committee to deny a permit holder the ability to carry in any establishment that sold liquor (i.e. a restaurant) was removed. The language is now back to the original language that prevents a permit holder from carrying a concealed weapon into an establishment that primarily sells liquor (i.e. a bar). This means that citizens will be allowed to carry in a restaurant that sells liquor but not an establishment that primarily sells liquor such as a bar.

This bill now goes to conference committee to reconcile the house and senate versions.

It is now incumbent on all freedom loving Kansans to contact Governor Sebilius. We simply must as Ronald Regan used to say, “make her feel the heat and she will see the light.”

Sounds like a well-thought-out piece of legislation, you and your fellow constituents need to make a lot of noise, and SOON!
