Where To Find Parts For 1986 Yam Moto4/200????

I have a 1986 Yamaha Moto4 200, 2 wheel drive, that has bad front wheel hub bearings.  Because these wheel hub bearings have been bad for sometime it will probably need the spindles replaced also.  Anyone know if those Yamaha factory replacement parts are still available, if so where and how much??  After market parts??

Is this repair something the average back yard mechanic can do himself or does it have to be done by dealer?  Most dealers around here say they won't work on anything older than 10 years.

thats the same quad as my very first one.  86 moto 4  200cc.  THat was a great little quad.  Finally traded it off for a new rifle.  Have you called the service dept at the local yamaha dealer?  That would be my first move.  They should be able to order them for you, or may even still have a set in stock.  I've never done them myself, so I can't comment on how difficult  the job may or may not be.  Good luck.

I did check with the dealer and they said they could likely still get the bearings but the spindles may be a difficult item to find.  The list price on the spindles was $155 +- each times two.  That hurts!

The scooter still runs good and works good but not sure it is worth putting that much money in.  I did buy the new Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 this weekend ($5328 OTD) so now I am debating what to do with the other one.  I would think because it still runs/works good it should be worth something but the high cost of the front end rebuild may be a problem.

I really liked that scooter and sure would hate to get rid of it.  It has just about been bullet proof and has hauled out many nice bucks over the years.

I understand your not wanting to get rid of an old warhorse like that Yamaha 200.  I still think of mine fondly, and although I am enjoying my Mule and not so new anymore rifle, I still had great times on that 200.

Maybe since you have the new Big Bear, you could hang on to the old 200 and rebuild a little at a time.  That way you could buy and replace a worn part as you had some $ to spend on it, and not get hit with a large repair or parts bill all at one time.  It could be a project quad and you could post some pic's of the progress on getting back to new condition.
That or just put it on E-bay and sell it for twice what it is worth.  People buy almsot anything on e-bay and usually pay too much for it.

What would my 1986 Yamaha Moto4 200cc, two wheel drive ATV be worth on Ebay?  I looked it up on one of the blue books and it said $800+-.  Mine needs the front end hubs/wheel bearings rebuilt but other than that it looks, runs, and drives great.

Can someone provide a step by step process by which the front wheel hub bearings and seals on this Yamaha Moto4 can be replaced?  It appears they are pressed in.  Can the seals, bearings, and races be knocked out with a long punch and hammer from the opposite sides?

The spindles are not boogered up but I suspect they have excessive wear.  Should the bearing's inner race fit snug on the spindles?  I am guessing that if the bearing fits loose on the spindle that would indicate excessive wear of the bearing surface on the spindle.  If so, can they be shimmed to fit tight or would the spindle have to be replaced?

sorry to respond so late.  I have never replaced those bearings, mine were still good when I traded the moto 4 away.  If they are pressed on, then I bet you would have to buy, or rent a puller.  How to find one the right size I don't know.  Wish I had some good info for you.  Sorry.  There is a salvage yard in Houston with motorcycle and I think atv's and parts .  Not sure they would have what you need, but if you want to try, here is the info  "Annie's Cycle Sales and Salvage" 11353 Eastex Freeway
