30 herrett loads?

I just bought a 30 herrett in a 10 inch bull barrel, and was wondering if anyone has a favorite load for deer size game?

Good Luck I bought one 3 years ago and I still have not found any load that really works.I get it out every once in a while and try something different but nothing to brag about.I guess the best so far is 125gr nosler ballistic tip over AA-1680.After fire forming brass I size until action just snaps shut seems to help.I have the 357 Herrett and it is a tack driver but the 30 is a different story.I have a 30-30 10" barrel that will out shoot it anyway.

so you will have a ready suppily of brass bullets and ammo. Factory ammo at that. No sence going through all that case making and fireforming unless you just like it and want to in that case have at it and enjoy. I have more fun with my 30-30 and factory ammo. the 135's are fun to shoot and the acrlleraters are really cool to shoot.

I use H4227 almost exclusively , the powder Steve and Bob used to develop the cartridge originally. I use 22.0/H4227/100 Gr Plinker to fire form brass, use remington or Federal less internal taper and no neck reaming. I then use 26.0/H4227/Speer 110 RN --the original hunting load for this round, warning warm load work up to it. The best load I have found is 24.0/H4227/125BT does 2325 out of my 30 year old barrel and shoots into 1" or so when I do my part. You can use the Speer 110 grain HP varmiter with the 26 grain load and it also works well. You have a very nice caliber and in my opinion one of the best in the 10" barrel. I have a 14" 30/30 and like it but I also like my 10" 30H! A lot of meat came home to the freezer because of it.The 125 BT load shot diagonally through a 250# hogs chest and dropped him on the spot, not to mention deer ,turkey, javelina,coyotes and antelope that have fell to the 30H. Great round , there are more powerful rounds but few better balanced for most game up to mule deer.

The old .30 Herretts - like the old .30-30s - had 14" twist rates, and some just would not shoot long bullets.  A buddy tried his slow-twist .30-30 on silhouettes and 165 and 150-grain BTs were about as accurate as buckshot.  You could see some of them corkscrew downrange to the rams; sometimes he got lucky.  He ended up using 150 flat-based bullets and they shot well to 200 meters.

I've hunted with the .30Herrett on and off for almost 30 years.  My best results were with IMR4227 and 130 Speer Hollowpoints.  In the old days most .308 bullets would not expand at Herrett veolcities, but that one did.  The 110 RNs did too, but they had such a poor BC that they were going awfully slow by the time they got to 200 yards.  I liked the 125 BTips in other barrels and they should work very well.

My Super 14 .30 H shot the Hornady 150 FMJBTs great on silhouettes, but the 10" would not.  Velocity must have been the reason - both were 14" twists.
