I just use normal cleaning patches and whipe everything down, use brake cleaner if needed, and oil very lightly with rem oil. I remove the scope base, clean underneeth, blue loctite the base back down after making sure the screws aren't bottoming out in the barrel. I then check the torque on the stock bolt into the reciever to be sure it's tight. If there is a steel bar in the stock make sure it's tight after checking stock bolt torque. Make sure recoil pad screws are snug and not stripped. Check the alignment of the forend spacer with the receiver (wood forend) and make sure the two screws are snug. I also make sure the top and back of the forend spacer isn't hitting the reciever and not letting the action close all of the way. I inspect the crown and rifling for burs, will reinspect after shooting if I find any (had one bur on my 22lr sportser crown that took a few hundred rounds to shoot off...). I also run over the entire barrel removing burs, slag, etc. I also touch up the blueing (permablue) on any thin or unblued spots. Select an o-ring to take to the range. Locktite scope ring screws when installing scope. Sand bag rifle and look down the bore and adjust the scope (bore sight).
I take a far amount of time to get to know my new friend before heading to the range.
