Who is using Beretta shotguns
« on: January 08, 2003, 10:18:26 AM »
I own two Beretta Shotguns.  An 390ST and the new 3.5" Extrema.  I haven't shot the Extrema yet, but I can tell you that the 390 is one of the most reliable semi-auto shotguns in the world (in a tie with Benelli).  I NEVER had ANY jams or other problems.

The only thing that you need to know about Berettas is that they are gas operated and you must clean the gun and keep the ports clean.  Otherwise, if the ports are clogged, then you could, and most likely will, incur problems.

Love my Beretta AL 390 synthetic. Great patterns with all chokes. Flawless functioning. Mine is the "cheapo" with no cutoff switch (It is not called a Silver Mallard like the ones with the cutoff and wood stocks) Even though they have been replaced by the 391 they are still at Wal Mart for $529.00. Light weight, if you get one you won't be dissapointed.

Not recommended for you to try but I also shoot  a 390 gold sport, I wanted to see how long till failure to feed /cycle/function, well I went four trap leagues with out internal cleaning, just exterior wipe down and choke tube removal, and that gun just functioned flawlessly with no hang-up`s and can not recommend a better gas operated shotgun.
Finally after guilt I did clean it, that comes to 2400 rounds between cleanings from a gunsmith stand point this system is fantastic.

Beretta AL-2
« Reply #5 on: March 22, 2003, 11:52:14 AM »
I started with an AL-2 Trap in 1974 and have ran at least thirty thousand
rounds through it with no trouble whatsoever.  I also have the Magnum and the Field model. By the way these guns will all shoot 3 inch shells even if they are rated 2 3/4.  I know this from the Beretta technicians.
I cut a 28" full to25 cyl for skeet and also have a Beretta Special Skeet barrell which I would like toknow more about.  Wouldn't trade them for anything new I have seen .  Just bought a 20 ga. IC for 225.00 at a recent gun show.   Dearley love them all.

Berettas have been my personal choice for the past 20 years. I've shot competitive trap, sporting clays and live pigeons along with company trap and skeet leagues until just recently. I own a 303 12 that's my turkey gun and has accounted for a flock of gobblers. My trap gun was a 680 combo with a 34" Unsingle and 30" o/u barrels. For sporting clays my choice was a 682 Sporting Clays Model and when fitted with an Olympic Trap stock it was my live pigeon gun. I had numerous choke tubes other than the factory that I had made for it.
My Chukar and Hun shotgun is a 391 Urika Gold model with a 26" barrel. I went through Brownings, Winchesters, Remingtons and Perazzis before deciding on the Beretta. Great gun!

urika 20 gold with 26" barrel.
I use it for upland birds and trap. I've had it now about three yrs. shoots anything I put through it "Except" cheap wal-mart bulk pack. Will not cycle. According to the factory rep, I need 28" barrel for more back pressure.

It's my second favorite firearm in my gun cabinet.

Had a little mishap with my AL390 Silver Mallard a couple of years ago,
I had just finished moving and one of my buddies wanted to go dove hunting. I told him that all my shells weren't even close to being unpacked yet and that i needed to go buy some, he said not to worry that he would loan me some of his reloads. I hardly ever shoot factory loads
anymore so I said what the heck why not. The next day we went hunting, seen a few birds come in,I shot, the gun did not cycle so I ejected the shell and put another behind it and emptied the gun. The following day we were back hunting again we all decided to take a break and B.S. alittle I was looking over my 390 when I noticed a funny bulge just past the gas port. WOOPS   Must have been the shell that didn't go off and the next one did. Guess the wad and maybe a little shot was still in the barrel. Put one heck of a bulge in it but it didn't burst. I still think if I would have been usingone of myolder guns it would have split wide open.
I took the barrel to my gunsmith he rolled it back down and said not to worry.  I purchased another barrel from Berreta and put it on but i did shoot the other one a few days and no problems showed up , But I left the new barrel on just in case. I think the world of my Berreta shotgun it's one tough piece of equipment     and not to bad looking either

Beretta "Folding" single-barrel shotgun is a delig
« Reply #10 on: July 14, 2004, 09:42:33 AM »
I was visiting a pawn shop with a friend of mine over the weekend and he lucked into one of the Beretta folding single-barrel shotguns in .410, what a jewel it is!  25" full choke barrel, nice European walnut with better than average checkering, rust blue and lightly engraved, steel buttplate and only weighs 4 pounds, 7 ozs.  He only paid $150 for it and it was in 90% condition once we cleaned the dust off it and gave it a good cleaning.

These were once imported by Galef and later by Stoger and sold for about $60 in the 1960s.  I haven't seen one here in years, but they were very common in Europe for city dwellers who wanted a light shotgun which will fold and fit into a standard Pullman suitcase to take on the train for a holiday in the country.  I never had the sense to buy one when I was over there and they aren't imported or even made anymore.

In Europe a 16 ga. is most popular, but they exported them into the US in 12-ga., 20 ga. and .410.  The 1966 Stoeger catalog describes a 28-ga. as well, but I've never seen one of those.

Does anybody else have one of these? - ESPECIALLY if you have one in 20-ga. you'd like to SELL!  I want one.

The best looking, elegant little single barrel I've ever seen. Balance like a good fly rod and makes any US single barrel shotgun look like a clubby fencepost by comparison.

  I have 3 Beretta Autos.
2) 391 Urika Field models, 12 & 20ga, 26"barrel

3901 cut to fit the wife in 20ga

No problems as long as I shoot them wet and feed'em a good diet. The 391 will belch on Fed Promos sometimes (12ga only). The 20ga gobbles everything
I shoot Skeet regularly w/Wally World Winnies 20ga in the new Super Speed Xtra's #8's

Love My Beretta's

I have a Beretta AL-2  12 gauge 3" magnum with one barrel: a 30" VR Full choke.  The 3" magnum barrel will shoot light 2 3/4" or 3" magnums without having to change valves or anything on the gas system.
I also have a Beretta AL-1  20 gauge 2 3/4" with two barrels: 28" Modified choke with plain barrel, and a 26" VR Improved cylinder barrel.
The workmanship inside and out is absolutely excellent.  I have hunted and shot clay birds with both, and they are really nice to shoot.  The 301, 302, and 303 model barrels will fit the AL-1 and AL-2 Beretta Shotguns.

I had a 391 Parrelel Target/Trap that shot for trap and sporting clays. Broke my first 25 sraight with that gun. Great stock adjusting system and a great overall performer. Sold it off when I got my Browning BT-99 and GTi as I got tired of chasing my hulls.

Beretta 390
« Reply #17 on: January 07, 2005, 12:06:02 PM »
I recently got a Beretta 390 (synthetic walmart version) and love it.  Takes a little longer to clean than my old Remington 1100, but would never go back.  Shoots straight & cycles reliably even when action is full of mud...

Only real problem I have had is scarring of my (supposedly "steel-proof") choke tube when using 3" mag steel shot to hunt geese, trying to resolve that with Beretta service dept now (any help on that issue would be appreciated...)

Even with the problem I've had, i'd still recommend giving Beretta a try to anyone...

im little late but i guess ill chime in,
a little bit of an addict
started with a 302 trap 30"
whitewing 12 ga 28"
and just got a 682 gold e 32"/34" trap combo, a few months ago.  im happy with all three, and love my 682.

the 302 is a workhorse, baught it used and put another 40k rounds through it over 5 years,  a few replacement springs and thats it, im not sure but i guess it has over 50k rounds through it and is still very reliable.

the whitewing i use for hunting, and i have not had a single problem.

682 already have about 5k through, it doubled once but could have been the ammo, i love this gun.

im a big beretta fan, and am very happy with them

I guess we all have our favorites but I do skeet and sporting clays-mine is a silver pigeon II with 30 inch barrels. It is the finest shotgun I ever shot and over 45 years I've shot them all.
