Kit Guns?
« on: April 05, 2004, 01:48:43 PM »
OK, Im pretty knowledgable when it comes to firearms.  I read anything I can get my hands on about the subject.  But one thing that has been mentioned many times in articles but never really described in any length is kit guns.  What exactly was part of a kit gun, what was needed to do for work, and such?  Are kit guns still sold as kits, or are they a remnant of a bygone age?  Im sure Ill have more questions, but Ill put this out there first.
Thanks,

I want to say that the term "kit gun" was a phrase coined by Smith and Wesson concerning their small framed revolvers. They were just the right size to put in your old kit bag... and smile, smile , smile.

Must need more sleep or something.

bigbore is correct. S&W coined the name "kit" gun with their .22 on the small .32 revolver frame.

Now that reminds me of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indie Discusses his upcoming adventure to find the Ark withhis mentor... as he is packing his "Kit" he places his idea of a kit gun... looks to be about .45 or .44 caliber..... :)
