just got a new nef 223 in wood with the standard barrel, mounted a sweet 17 6x18, good steel rings lapped and loc-tited.
got a couple of boxes of cheap umc ammo to get on the paper.
those things were all over the place, i was ready to quit till i got a box of win supreme 50 gr. then started grouping decent. last nite tried win varmit 45's, all over the paper again and about half of them won't eject. guess i'm askin you guys if this is normal for a new nef or have i swapped off a real nice 788 in 22-250 for a piece of junk?

oleredhead make sure the chamber is really clean and oil free. Any oil in the chamber will eventually make shells stick. I use the Winchester varmint pack from Walmart. They are 45 grain and shoot really sweet in my gun. If they are all over the place check the crown of the muzzle.

olredhead..I presume you have perused the previous posts about accurizing the NEF...check the crown for burrs/imperfeectons ,the forearm may need to be looked at..the barrel does not need to be touching anywhere except where the screw goes in and then there is the o-ring deal...  Read around on back topic posts about the NEF...ya gotta tinker with them sometimes to make um shoot. Welcome to the addiction! :)

I really like these NEF's but don't know that I would have parted with a 788 for it.  Try all the little tricks, might polish the chamber too.  I did mine with JB's bore paste around an empty brass run by a drill.  Haven't had one stick yet.

Make sure you clean the area in the chamber real good and run solvent or a good cleaner a lot in the ejector area too.  Sometimes they leave a lot of gunk in there.

Mine new Ultra loves the Vmax 35gr bullet but the barrel is still very new.  Only about 20rds through it and the 35gr Vmax give me less than 3/4" groups.

Just don't tell me it was a left hand 788.

I hear ya on THAT one leftover.  Let's hear it for the lefties.  People wanna whine about discrimination in the world, try growing up left handed.  I have become almost ambidexterious out of necessity.

One thing else to remeber...well actually 2 things. When shooting off the bench...remember to place the front bag right under the hinge area and when you squeeze off a round...follow thru with the trigger and hold ..don't just squeeze it and let it go.

Besides the standard o-ring fix..these 2 things helped shrink my groups faster than anything else I tried.

Handirifle's tip on polishing the chamber really works. I had a stuck case in about every ten and after polishing the chamber using the same method as he discribed fired over 50 rounds without a problem.
