.311" gas checks
« on: April 06, 2004, 07:17:27 AM »
does any one make them? all the local gus carry is .308". would it be possible to fit a .308 gas check on to a .311 bullet? probably not.

.30 gas checks

Kevin,

The standard .30 caliber gas checks work just fine for .308 though .313 groove diameter bullets. The base of the bullet and gas check simply forms to full groove diameter of whatever your barrel size is.

I used to worry about whether the gas checks will stay on and if they fit right.  Recovered bullets show that the Hornady brand gas check always stays on, and that it shows full groove diameter after firing.

311 Gas Checks

I agree with the Traveler.  I have used Hornady 30 caliber gas checks for years and they fit on .311, .310 and down to .308.

Picture this question that I posed to Hornady one year.  What gas check can I use on a .366 bullet (9.3mm).  They said use the .357.  Now, I thought that was stretching usability just a tad bit.
