The transfer bar really works!
« on: April 06, 2004, 02:46:44 PM »
While I was shooting today (I was using a shotgun receiver) I managed to squeeze off one shot instead of a semi-shotgun quick pull.  To my surprise, nothing happened except a click of the hammer when it hit.  I had to scratch my head for a minute before I realized the hammer released, but the transfer bar wasn't pulled up to allow the hammer to hit the firing pin.  I just recocked and gave a little healthier pull and everything went as planned!

I actually feel a little better knowing the transfer bar system on the NEF will actually prevent accidental discharges!

More shooters need to check their transfer bar systems for proper working order. When working properly they can prevent most accidental discharges. I have had a hammer slip a time or two and luckily it prevented the gun from going off. :D

I'm on this board to learn more about H&R/NEF single shots because I saw one I'd like to pick up.  I haven't shot one before, but I am familiar with transfer bar systems.  Sounds like your transfer bar did not work properly.  When you pull or squeeze the trigger it should rise into position before the sear is released and not require the extra tug.  The extra tug is not good for accuracy.

Danhar,

It isn't really an extra "tug", it's actually follow through.
