What is the basic difference in price of these models if ordered from Walmart? Also, I seem to have picked up somewhere that the .280 cost more, I think the poster referred to "an extra $100". May have been referring to getting an extra barrel. Thanks in advance for your responses.

From Wal mart The Handi is about $190, my Ultra from a gun shop was $260. Don't know if Wal Mart carries the Ultra. I doubt ANY caliber is more than the Ultra's.

The Barrel Accessory Program link on the NEF web site www.hr1871.com will show you the price of all the barrels.

Handirifle, thanks for the reply. I've been considering going with the .280 since I have a bolt gun in that caliber. But I like playing with different calibers and probably won't duplicate it. The 7-08 (although still a 7mm projectile) is mighty appealing. I don't really like the "everybody's got one" calibers. Seems I'm going to end up with the synthetic. Are replacement stocks readily available? I really like the laminated stocks, but not the available calibers.

Dan...H&R does offer replacement laminate stocks and forearms in case you want to add those on to a Handi at a later date. You would just have to call H&R and order the parts and accessories catalog because they do not list the laminate stocks and forearms on their website. I called for my catalog a couple weeks ago and still have yet to receive my copy...Don't know what is going on there. Someone here would also be able to tell you the part # in case you wanted to order the stocks without the catalog.

Just for reference until you get your catalog the following are the part numbers and prices for the Monte Carlo laminate stocks:

Camo Laminate
Stock: R01181 Price: 55.00
Forend: R01182 Price: 26.00

Cinnamon Laminate
Stock: S02452 Price: 55.00
Forend: R02332 Price: 26.00

Up here in the Dakotas, the Ultra runs about 40-50 dollars higher than the standard handy rifle. I took my 280 out to the range yesterday with a new load with the 140 grain ballistic tip and its first group was 1.40 inches. I have not played with seating depth or any other powders or charge weights as yet.
