Cooper Model 57-M Rimfire
« on: April 08, 2004, 07:58:13 AM »
I will be purchasing a.17 Hornandy Mach 2 (.17HM2) when they hit the market later this year. I am interested in the Cooper Arms of Montana Model 57-M LVT. I believe they will be adding it to their list? I will be primarily hunting small game, mostly Squirrel and lots of them. As this is my first purchase of a high end rimfire any information would be appreciated very much. Thanks in advance for any and all feedback. Respectfully, Rob
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.

I have had a M-57  in .22rf for a couple of years.  It came with a test target that was one ragad hole.  Shoots that well with Federal Match as well as some of the every day .22 rf.  Fit and finish are wonderful, could not expect more for the money.

Squirrel Boy - I believe that the .17 Hornaday might be a little messy on squirrels   Nice little round but if you plan on eating a lot of squirrels then you'd be better off with a .22LR. Many of the old Marlin talk members used head shots on them when using the .17 to save the meat. Good luck on your purchase!    CEJ...

Thanks for the comments. I've been very happy with the various Marlin rimfires that I own. (.22-.22Mag-.17HMR)  I'm sure that I will be extremely happy with the Cooper that is due to arrive later this year. From what I've seen over the years performance wise, I believe the .17HM2 should be perfect for Squirrel and other small game. "Squirrel Boy"

Squirrel Boy,
Since you mention small game hunting with the Cooper, you might want to consider the new 17 Hor-CCI are coming out with. It is due out this fall. Same bullet, lower velocity. Less meat loss, lower noise level plus a little lower ammo cost.
