I'm looking for a rifle for my wife and I would like some info on the Ruger compacts. Also what caliber should I get for her? I live in Alsaka if this helps.

Jedd, Alaska is a large state, what part do you live in. What would she be hunting. Would you be with her with a large bore rifle if in big bear country. How much shooting experience does she have, and what level of recoil can she tolerate. Just a few questions to get us started. Byron

I, and hopefully her, travel all over the state hunting. I really want to take her on a sheep hunt. I will be with her with a larger rifle and we always carry .44's. She can handle almost any recoil but I want to get her something she can shoot a lot without getting a headache.

Jedd,

I think she should be able to tolerate the 308 or the 7mm/08. These calibers will handle anything up to 1000 lbs with proper bullet placement and a stout bullet.

The compact will fit her better because the the LOP is only 12.75". Watch the weight on the whole package. Rifle with scope sling and 5 rounds of ammunition should not exceed 7.5 lbs; preferably 7 lbs.
