New .243 barrel range report - Final Finish
« on: April 09, 2004, 01:43:12 PM »
I know that some people think its crazy, but I just finished shooting 50 abrasive    coated bullets down my new .243 barrel.  I used David Tubb's Final Finish.  Shoot 10, clean, shoot next 10, clean, etc.

Best group before: 2 1/2 inches.  First group after: .5 inches.

I've used this with two other rifles, but the results were not so dramatic.  Now I'm really convinced.

P.S. The .243 barrel was the roughest looking I have ever seen, as far as tool marks goes.  It is now pretty smooth.

I have used lapping compound from Veral Smith and from Midway-USA on home cast bullets. I have never had the results you did, but I have never been disappointed.  The worst case has been a barrel that was very easy to clean with no worse accuracy than before.  Sounds like you did very well.
Shoot straight , shoot often.
