Help with a Black Widow recurve?
« on: April 10, 2004, 05:12:24 AM »
I have had a Black Widow bow, ser.#21989, come into my possession recently. It appears to be almost pristine but as I am not an archer, I wouldn't be a very good judge of such things. I do know that the wood work on the riser is awesome. This thing is beautiful. Its a 60" with a 53#@28 draw. Any help would be appreciated! thanx guys!

Are you just wanting to know what kind of condition it is in?

First is the finish. If it has a good finish, then it most likely is in good shape and has no moisture invading the wood. If it does have finish missing, it could create problems if not addressed.

Second is the limbs. When the bow is unstrung and you look down the limbs are they twisted? If they are not twisted, that is good. If they are twisted, they can be fixed easily.

Also, sometimes older bows will show stress marks in the fiberglass on the limbs, but unless the finish is compromised, this is usually not a problem.

Black Widow has been around a long time and has had several owners, and if the bow you have was built by the Wilson brothers, it could be a collectors item that increases in value as time passes. I'm sure if you call or write Black Widow an e-mail, they can take the serial number and give you a little history on your bow as to when it was built and the original owner.

foodaddy11,

click on the link below. You can either call them or write them an e-mail. I bet they can give you an approximate value on your bow. They can most likely refinish it for you as well if you like, but it would probably be worth more to a collector with the original finish.

You might also want to check out some of the old threads on the Widow Wall. Since you are a Black Widow owner now, they will probably give you a password so you can actually post on the message board instead of being restricted to only reading the messages.
