Just thought I would announce that my 13 year old opened up the Kansas youth season this past Friday morning by dropping the hammer on a nice longbeard at 6:37 a.m. He made a nice shot at 21 yards with his 20 gauge. This was the fourth longbeard of his short hunting career but the first he has taken with the 20 gauge Mossberg youth model I bought him last year. Last year he filled his first tag with a 23 1/2 pound gobbler that had 4 beards. Although I kid him about having a good guide (what are dads for) I am really proud of the boy. When it comes to turkey hunting he seems to pop right out of bed at 5 in the morning.
