Leather grips?

Anybody ever seen (or made) leather grips for a cowboy-type pistol?  Not a wrapping, but actual 2-piece grip "plates".  I'd think it could be done, using a thick piece to start.  The feel/grip would be good, and it would sure be different.  Might need to add some kind of strengthening "shank" up the inside inside, partly to bolster in the screwwarea; but otherwise I'd think it was possible.  Just a thought.

Without wrapping a top grain leather, such grips would look like the handle on a K-Bar knife!  Functional, perhaps, but UGLY! :wink: And what would sweat, oils, solvents, etc. do to it?

You could try using a wood filler and an upholstery leather covering glued on, would look OK but not too terribly durable or resistant to anything.....
