I got my package of 50/.458 (45-70 rifle bullets) MMP sabots today. I was able to get them to slide down the A&H's, the Remington, and a TC Green Montain 50 cal sidelock barrel just like they were made for those barrels. I was using a Hornady .458 350 grain RN bullet.

I will try shooting them this weekend for a group and I will get a couple of shot over the chrono also. I will start at 80 grains t7 and work to 100, through one of the A&H's.

Anybody have any thoughts on these loads and what I might expect for a velocity?

Like to hear how they shot out of the A & H-- an incorrect but plausible velocity guess for 80 gr. T 7 would be 1482 fps.

Used to use the Knight 458 mag sabots with a Speer 400 gr FP over 3-pellets of Pyrodex in my Encore 209x50. Shot great, 1 1/4" 3-shot groups at 100 yards. Never chron'ed them, but the 200 yard drop was 11 inches. I only shot one deer with this load. It was a forty yard head shot. Not a great testing media for bullet evaluation. Have since switched to Hornady 250 gr SST/ML. Unbelievable groups out to 300 yards.

naw! somebody said "let's go turkey hunting this weekend" so we spent both days letting the turkeys make turkeys of us, acually I turned down a "Jake" cause i knew i would see the big "Tom"

My son-in-law is suppose to come over this weekend and said something about bringing his firebolt to do some target shooting - sooo hopefully this weekend.

My delimma right now is the lack of bullet variety for the sabot.

Where do you guys buy these 458 sabots? Sounds like fun trying something different. I went to the MMP site but none were listed. I also looked around at some of the online outfits but didn't come across any.

Dingus, MMP has not updated there web site for along time now, they actually have a whole lot more sabots than are shown on the site. If you call them using the number on the web site you will be able to order the Orange .458's. You can probably have them mail you the new flyer which has these new products on it - including the the new polymer sabots....
