Yes...we have good bear hunting in certain parts of NC...
Fall season only...you can buy a non-resident license...
Traditionally the mountains of the state have always had
a good population...the eastern part of NC has had an increase
in bear population in the last 20years or so...and because of
the habitat (farmland)...some of these are huge...in excess of
600 pounds isn't uncommon anymore...we own farmland in
Gates County (just south of Suffolk, VA) and there was one
killed there that went over 600 last year...I heard of one going over
700 that was killed in Hyde County, 2 years ago...There were
a total of 955 killed in the Coastal Region in 2002-2003...and
530 killed in the Mountain Region...Beaufort County had the
most killed...130...with Hyde 2nd...119...Tyrrell was 3rd at 97...
all of these counties are in the Eastern part of NC....The two
mountain counties with the most were...Graham...51 and Haywood
at 48....This should give you an idea of where to start....For size
and numbers....go "down east" as we say....Good Luck...flintlock
