Anybody tried the SVI 2-piece frames?
« on: April 14, 2004, 08:12:33 AM »
My next project gun is going to be a SVI in 38 Super. I'm curious if anyone had tried the 2 piece frames and the SVI slides with the interchangeable bolt face inserts. I've never had one in my hand yet but the info I'm getting says the're pretty snazzy. See: http://www.sviguns.com/

Lotta folk are fond of the frames on SV's and from all I read they are pretty good.
I am kinda leaning towards the thought of getting one setup on a 6" longslide with a good reliability package included in the workup. I just can't decide on the caliber--10mm, WW9X23, or super .38.
10mm if it was a carry weapon exclusively-but thats not the plans.
WW9X23 appears, at this point in the thought process, to be a better compromise. The other factor in this thought is my age, which, in spite of all that I try, keeps progressing, and, I digress, this load seems to be milder on the shooter while attaing very good velocity and stopping power. The drawback is in the reloading. The caliber needs good support and the use of Winchester brass as the pressures in this demon are pretty great.
The super .38 is one of tha alltime favorites with the sport crowd. this load seems to be forgotten for concealed carry but handloads can be mild to pretty hot. Some have said the 1911 platform is the best platform for the WW9x23 and the .38 super and was perfect for JB's design.
