Anyone own or shoot a Encore 15 inch 450 marlin pistol? If so, what kind of scope do you use on it? Do you hand load for it?

I shoot an 18" bull custom shop barrel. I have used Sierra 300gr, Rem 405gr, and Hornady 500gr bullets in it with great success. I Use a near max load of H322 with a Win large rifle mag primer. The 405gr bullets seem to shoot about the best but there isn't much difference. I have shot this as both a pistol and a rifle. The rifle set up is not fun to shoot. (at least not more than a few shots). The pistol set up is no problem. I use a burris 4x12 when using it as a pistol.  KN

I'll soon find out. Just bought one for my boy for graduation. It is used. The original owner got knocked out by it. It's a 15"w/MZ tammer and the srews ripped out on recoil, sending a 2x6 Bushnell right between the eyes!!!. I told them b4 they started shooting it to mount it with aTSOB but they wouldn't listen. They just sent it to a gunsmith to install bigger screws!!! It'll go right up to SSK for a TSOB when I get a little more OT at work.

Sorry to hear about your boy, this thing is a monster. The friend I got from well I guess it was a little to much for him. When he bought it  the gun came with wood grips and when you shot it, it would almost come out of your hand. I haven't got my grips yet and I am here say that I will be getting rubber grips. I am not sure what scope I will get yet, I would like to put a Leupold compact on it. I am in debate whether to even reload for it or not I only plan to hunt with it, but as much as I love reloading I probably will. I only paid  $125 for it I really want a 7mm08 barrel sure would like to find someone to trade with or someone who would buy it.

I'm anxious to see what the recoil is. I have a 45/70 14" SSK(SSK brake), a 375 Win 15"(mag-na-port) and a 12" 375JDJ (mag-na-port) and he shoots them all. Reloading WILL be to your advantage. You can reduce it down to trapdoor 45/70 loads with no problem. Excact loading info. You can go down to 45/70 trapdoor load but you can't take a 45/70 up!!
