Need some confermation on advice I gave re: lubricating PP
« on: April 16, 2004, 01:50:06 PM »
Can you all give me a check up here.  I found myself on another board while surfing a lead from Google.  There were a handfull PP shooters comparing the best way and recipe to lube their PP pills.  I jumped in and asked them why they wanted to mess up a perfectly good PP bullet by gumming up the paper?  I told them water proofing is one thing but lube is not needed nor is it helpful. I kind of went 180 degrees from their threads and I want someone to let me know if I should have kept my yap shut.  JB

I  have mixed feelings about lubing the paper patched bullets. I always thought loads were a little more accurate with lube. Rooster "Jacket" mixed with the water I wet patches with, seems to coat the bullets with a nice dry film. Patches seem to go on a little nicer. Some of my best accuracy has been with a light film of SPG BP lube. Many years ago I used white lithium/lubriplate for my smokeless loads--seemed to work fine. If nothing else the lube helps to keep the paper form sticking to the inside of the case as you seat the bullets. I'm always open to new ideas.

I lube mine, soetimes with Alox, sometimes with Lyman Moly.  Never tried it without.  I have some patched  and unlubed right now and may try them out to see what happens

I guess I may have miss spoke.  I checked Matthews and he advises lubes with smokeless powder and modern sharp rifling.  JB
