Well, I finally took some pics of the longbow that I made for my wife. It's hickory backed maple, don't adjust your computer, the back is dyed purple. It's her favorite color. It's 72'ntn, and pulls 48lbs at 28". The handle is purpleheart, and the arrow shelf is moose horn. She's shooting weighted carbons now, but she's destined some nice matching chundoo or poc later. :lol: I made the quiver too, the button is made from wild boar bone, scrimmed and painted. Nice bow,really great work. What did you use to die it purple? I am working on a romanian gun stock for my daughter right now and she wants it stained purple. And what did you coat the purple hart to keep it purple? Things I'v made with purple hart turn almost black from hand oil and nothing seam to coat it well. It's one of two woods that I know of that doesn't float.

Thanks for the kind words.
The purple stained wood is done with Fiebing's leather dye.(EBAY)
The purple heart's color is enhanced with heat, a heat diffuser on a torch should work, sand down to 800 grit, and polyurathane such as Minwax Helmsman spray keeps it nice.

way to go jeff, looks real nice. I always like to see selfbows to see the grace beauty and style of the bowyer's talents put into it. It is one thing to shoot and hunt with them but is another to know the animal harvested with a selfbow really becomes a true Trophy.
