Goex Fg Test Lot #01-75 03 Dec 08B
Tested a new lot of Fg Goex powder that I had got a while back. One can never has enough Fg on hand with a 45-110 in the stable.
Temp was 56 Humidity at beginning of test was 24% at the end of the session it was 32% and a few raindrops. In Wyoming when its raining the Humidity still is low! The Barometer was 29.95 and rising.
Load was 105 grs Lot # 01-75 03 Dec 08B This gave about the same stacking height to give the same amount of compression as my old load of 107 grains.
Test Rifle my 45-110 Shiloh Sharps LR Express

Bullet was 540 gr Paul Jones Creedmoor
.060 Poly wad
Ran the load over my Ohler 35P Chronograph.
Range was 200 yards and sadly I did not have a proper Zero with this much faster powder. I hit right at the top of the target frame with the load so will have to come back to test for accuracy load.
What was of interest was the fact of the MV! Man this new stuff is fast, my old load of 107 grs gives Avg MV of 1329 fps. This new powder was 1397 Fps! Thats 68 fps faster then my old load.. This puts Goex well within the realm of Swiss in the speed department I would think and no Duplex needed in a 45-110 to get that MV up where one needs it for Creedmoor shooting.
3 patches were all that was needed to clean up the barrel a couple more of Kroil and I was good to put it up.
One other thing was tested today a new MVA 45-110 crushproof Blow Tube was used in this test, I ordered mine from Shiloh. This thing fits the chamber like a glove and really seals up well with the O ring thats on the blow tube about .5 inches from the front. I think it will help to keep the moisture in the barrel where we need it and not into the chamber where we sure dont!
If it does not rain to bad tonight, I hope to get to the range again tomorrow, test 104 grs, and get a good accuracy test.
